I'm still looking for that "special" person who is going to buy my Kramer Forum3 NT but in the meantime my obsession with pointyhead guitars continues:
here's a generic MIChina 85.00 axe that I hope has potential: ( Ironically a local guitarstore sells them for 199.95 ) If it uses standard everything, the transition from junk to gold may be easy...If not, then I'll use it as a playtoy

My initial guess would be that the pickups, tuning keys, and bridge should be pretty standard fair, and I would think that you would have no problem in changing these things out. Provided that the neck and body are sound, it might have some potential.
That bridge pickup is a dead-ringer for an after-market Music Man type.
That is one wild-looking bass!

thanks guys, it is a little "extreme" like a BCRich, but if it balances and don't hum, I'll be happy.
here's the Jackson and Ibanez guitar counterparts
I was very happy when I bought a couple 100 dollar Kramer low-end Aerostars.....because of the rain on our Marathon gig, I actually used my Kramer so I wouldn't have to worry about the rain ( YES it and me were pretty wet )

ouch! OUCH!
now i'm totally blind.
now ... i'm all about alternative body designs and really not too happy with the standard designs companies have been putting out (p bass this and jazz bass that) ... but how come the only alternative are these super pointey designs? i mean, i understand that someone is into them, but i just dont know if i can get on stage with something like that. altho i really dig the explorer design, i'm still reluctant with that.
i thought the spear s-1 was super cool looking ... but i just couldnt get a hold of one.
why cant a company take a wild design like this and put some curves and / or scrollies on it?
i still will probably end up with some super pointey eye pokers like this eventually anyway ... just to have.

I think my biggest obstacle is exactly what you said Mike, I have enough "normal" basses in the house, and I am on the lookout for extreme for a couple units. hopefully everything I find from now on will be lefty stuff, extreme or not
You don't know but my willingness to play an extreme bass on stage regardless of the circumstances is very apparent in my band. ( meaning I'd sport that thing or a crackle finished bass in church if I believed it was the best sounding unit for the gig. )
hell I'd sport a square bodied pine wood bass if it was the "shizznit" for tone at that particular gig.

well the thing came and let me review a 80.00 guitar despite it's cool looks: p.o.s. what else can I say no sustain, low p-pup output with a buzz like a fly in front of a microphone
well, that was then...this is now
after adding the jackson bridge and emg select, it sounds good and although the neck is not too flat on the back and it has med frets like the kramer, the trussrod works and I'll use it at our gig for a set cause it's a necdiving mofo for sure with that light small body. The MM is wired DC and when I get some time I'll throw a switch in there to split it.

I think it looks really cool with the strings inverted. Won't the MM sound even weaker and hum more when it's coil tapped?

I dunno it didnt hum in the first place cause the coils are connected together. the p was junk and only had 4.35k ohms to it and no bass whatsoever. No realestate for the 7410 but I might put the other j2000 I have in it and use 2 switches. I have to buy a lefty nut so it fits cause flipping a nut is only good if the nut is a square, and most aren't.
Both the MM and P routes are slightly larger than the norm, so the EMG-P has a little gap all the way around but so what.

I'm glad you aren't considering a trem for that bass, Mike. That headstock with the wonky string angles looks like a map of the L.A. freeway system! True, there does not appear to be enough real estate for a 7410, but a Hipshot would fit. In either case, my money says that any trem on that bass would go horribly out of tune on the first dive.
On the other hand, great job bringing back to life! Sounds like those stock P's had about as much output as a stick of butter.

the strap pin on the wing was useless no way to counter the dive so I mounted one on the back, and the other stayed the same place..This video was done this afternoon before I moved the pin and it was uncomfortable.
I jammed some Saliva on it as a test.
tuned to c# standard pretty low for the strings. both cabs on/overdrive thru the 4x10 only/MM pickup only/compressor hitting the 100% limit the whole time.

True enough, and I will admit that many have had good luck with trems on a bass with the string angles going off in all directions. I'm only speaking for my own experience, and for me, I won't ever own a bass that has such an issue. But if anyone else can make it work, that's great!
Maybe part of it is that I set my trems to divebomb as far as possible, so there is more room for binding to happen. Again, I am sure that others can still get around this, but I will admit that I haven't been able to.

your missing the whole point of a cheap bass Tommy......
I'm not a TB'er who brags to everyone about how great their SX sounds AFTER they put 300.00 worth of stuff in it to make it playable
a 100.00 bass to me, STAYS a 100.00 bass. Now on the other hand if this thing had a neck on it that was the same as the nice ones on the Jacksons, then yes I would invest, but when dealing with low-end-junk....I try to keep the overall costs down as much as I can because you can "polish" a turd, but it is still a turd never the less.

Awesome choice, Mike! I have Yngwie Malmsteens Odyssey album, and it's by far my favorite. Deja Vu is a rippin' tune!
Actually, the bass sounds really good! Although it does look like it's a challenge to play, especially doing fast stuff. Still, awesome job, Bro!

it's just the last portion as you know. the actual song is just "background bass" for the most part.
if you really listen at 1 minute when i start that final riff, I didn't realize I was over the MM and when I moved over the p and it really changed the tone back. --oops I would never really thought about it until you re-watch the same thing a bunch of times
I was watching raven videos from an old thread when I posted all that BSheenan stuff and wanted to find out if you have a GOOD copy of metal on metal or something else raven does cause I wanted to redo one of john G's song but all I have to go on is the videos which sucks for audio and I want to give my tribute to the band. ( any suggestions minus any whammy solos please ) the neck on this thing is very different on the back, so for normal playing which is what our band does I'll be good to go, same as switching back and forth from 4 to 5string it takes a bit to get up to speed, and I'm once again motoring along.

Sorry, Bro. I don't have a good copy of Metal On Metal. In fact, all of the Raven I currently have is bootleg material! Don't worry, John already knows!
I recently found some really good quality videos of Raven material on YouTube. But you can also go to Rhapsody music, and they allow 25 free songplays per month. They have Raven albums in their catalog, so you might find a good source of Raven material to learn from there.

still many good days in May left to find bargains, so here's a 100.00 all black 87 Kramer ZX70:
the white lefty is on it's way to get kahlerized, a few I never ever used got sold off, that goofy Warrior I found this month, and now this Kramer since you folks don't frequent TB, let me show you the "May" family ...there's a couple missing from this pic, but I really got a good pic of the "actual" color of the pink lefty so I'm glad I pulled em all out when the drums were still there

Nice vids Amimbari! I have a question though. With a lot of seemingly similar basses, how do you decide what are your main basses? Or do you just have one for every day of the month?
Also, sorry it's been so long since I have posted anything. School has been dominating me lately.

no mits, it is more of the "I'll buy everyones unwanted items". As far as one or 4 being the only ones I use regularly, ya that's about it. The rest are for collecting for the day I need some quick cash since there is only a couple in the lot that I would never sell unless I really needed the money.
The similarity is in looks only as most of them sound unique, but I usually have enough EQ capability that I can tame them down to the sound I like, so eh, playing a red one today and a black one tomorrow is more of a novelty.

the ironic part is for 15 years I only had 2 basses, that's it...one main and one backup which I actually never had to use at a gig.
in my current bank account/job situation, if I didn't have to fork out about 1500 for house expenses every month, I'd own quite a few expensive units, but I'm not in that kind of position yet.... I look at the 15-20-30- basses some of these real collectors have and just say wow 1/2 their collection alone is worth more than my house, so my few thousand $$ worth of cheap gear is only very valuable to me.
I see Kramer is making a comeback, and although those retards are still calling the new 2010 basses the same names they always were, and probably made in Indonesia or something...here is a 2010 Kramer Striker that may be a JUNE toy if I can find one in the store for 199.95: IF they make a lefty version with a maple f.board....all more reason to check it out

if they sell em for 199 and make a lefty for 249, I'd go check out a righty and see what it feels like. it still will be an entrylevel unit, but so is a SX and they sell a ton of them. I'm just into the reissues and how many people are interested in buying something brand new that is styled from something 30 years ago.
at least they are not coming out with a relic line
I'm really hoping that the kahlerjob this guy is doing will turn out nice because honestly, gold on white + black pups = gonna be ugly as ****...lol, so I am gonna sell my red p bass to fund a black trem, then have the guy install the gold one on my black and maple so a righthander can enjoy it sometime in the future, just like I did when I traded my black one for that crackle.

sometimes the basses don't stay around too long or get parts thrown in something else so I take a lot of pics to say "I remember when I had that one" in the future My grey Kramer didn't even make it to the jamroom except for some pics before I took it apart
plus, when you have a camera and a computer.....same thing for taking jamroom video covers with the camcorder.....
I have a ton of pics of my cars, other gear, other valuable things in the house as well for insurance purposes, cause "telling" the insurance company that 15 basses amps, cabs, drums etc...got stolen or destroyed in a fire/flood is not the same as "showing" them 15 basses amps, cabs, drums etc were stored here...
