thanks guys for your support on my other videos. As you know being a singer/musician, I guess you can tell by now I'm a real whore with the ton of videos I have online, and anytime I can show off I do. I just have to remember that I am almost 50, and although my running all over the bar with my wireless is kinda over, I still will take the spotlight anytime I can get it.
How many more good years will I be able to play? who knows, so while I can do it...I just do it.
and Kugel, that video we did, was just a "party-jam", here's one of the many instrumentals that I also wrote, that allowed me to jam on the guitar.
this video was posted on the old site before it crashed....another "party-jam" but a whole lot more structured and difficult to play.
same thing for this video I have no sheet music, no tabs, just wrote it, saved it in the computer, taught it to my boy, and rolled the camcorder. This video was on the old site before it crashed.

Yeah, sad but true. Most of us are quickly heading down the ol' DentureCream/BenGay/Depends/Ensure/Viagra/tapioca pudding highway!

The thing I've noticed about this place is that everyone is either over 35 (Eric, John, Amim) or under 20 (You, me, CB). Weird how we all fit together so well.

the interaction in a small group with a huge age difference is always interesting. I treat the young guys who like to hang out with us oldier guys as plain people, ( unless they act like kids ), and have found a lot of commonality and interaction between ourselves despite all my stories starting "when I was your age", and their stories starting out with "last year" --hehehe
The lack of education and common knowledge in most teens is alarming, and I am always glad to help the kids out who hang out with us in any way I can, and my reward is just to see that they are listening, and learning.
As parents/adults, yes there "were" times we also got out of control, had our massive hissy-fits, huge parties, did many things you regret later in life, but by bringing these stories to the kids, it tends to show them that although fun for the "moment", the future consequences are a disaster waiting to happen if you go and seek "the dark side" at an early age.
I don't treat a teenager any different than a 40 year old, if your respectful you are...age has no bearing on that.
The old guys should know that the DEATH--KILL-HARDCORE METAL scene is only the music end of a much larger disaster ( horror/disaster/killing/movies/ tv shows/video games, with nothing but shoot-shoot-shoot-kill-kill-kill as the theme )..
..christ what do expect when you put a teen in front of a computer and say "kill every single one of the bad guys in this video and you get a reward"...lol
and finally --hell this should be in the RANT section

I wouldn't call it a disaster. I play violent video games, watch violent movies, and listen to fairly violent music, but I still wouldn't consider myself a violent person, because I know there is a very big difference between that stuff and real life, as do most people. And the ones who don't are psychotic. They were just crazy to begin with.
Anyway, I feel like everyone here is treated as an equal by everyone else, regardless of age. And I don't mind hanging out with you old geezers. You have more knowledge and experience than me, and you're all pretty cool, despite being twice my age. Plus, you guys made the best music "back in the day"!

Man, I always sucked at those games. My take on death metal--it's awesome. I couldn't imagine the world without a little Cannibal Corpse and Vomitory to brighten things up.
However, hardcore metal is just wrong to me. I don't get it and I have never gotten it. It's the exact opposite of the music I want to hear. It's going in completely the wrong direction.
Violent music is such a release from stress and frustration. I wouldn't be able to come to terms with myself without it.
And black metal is just a spiritual journey for me

That's the appeal of metal to me. Sad how a lot of people don't understand and think that that kind of music just creates a bunch violent satan worshipping druggies. I kinda like the way Rob Zombie described metalheads in Metal: A Headbanger's Journey: "Metalheads always start off as the 'weird kid.' You know, the one who, while everyone else is playing baseball, is obsessing over the Manson Family? It's not even that you like what support what they did. You're just fascinated by it. Metal is just all the weird kids in one place." (paraphrased a bit, but close enough).

To be totally honest, I don't think violent music/video games/media/etc., are the root causes of the problem. I think it has more to do with upbringing and personal experiences.
I think it's like anything else in Life. You have to be able to put everything in the proper perspective, work towards doing the right thing, and also take responsibility for your actions. I listen to some pretty whacked-out music, but I also know that doesn't give me the right to do something violent. The thing is, not everyone in the world has a sense of right from wrong.
And as far as what age anyone is, the great thing about music is that it bridges many gaps, and brings people together. I don't care how old anyone is, or how much experience they have. Yeah, we can kid about us "old guys" all day long, but just because we have more experience doesn't make us any better than anyone else. I still learn new things all the time, and a lot of the time it's from players that have less experience than I do. None of us knows it all, and we never will. And that's perfectly OK.
After all, it is the journey, and not the destination, that matters most.
As far as I am concerned, everyone here enriches this place, and has value. And some of us might have more miles on us, but that also means we are, in the immortal words of David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, "shorter of breath, and one day closer to death".

But, Kugel, I AM a Satan worshiping druggie! As are all my friends (outside of theatre)...
I never drew the connection between the violence I hear and imagine and my potential to be violent. They are two different worlds.
I couldn't agree more, Eric--it's all about the journey, the goal is irrelevant.
It seems as though most of us here have a similar sense of spirituality. I think that's pretty cool. Must be something about tremolo abusing bassists that has a common thread.

I think you're on to something there, Martin. Although I don't know if everyone here believes along the exact same lines, it does appear that we are all not hemmed-in by more conventional systems. I certainly don't care what anyone else believes, as I think it is up to the individual to decide what works best for them. The last thing I'll ever do is try to convince someone else that I'm right, and they're wrong, because it might very well turn out that the opposite is true. All I know is what works for me. And when people find something that works for them, and as long as no one else is harmed by it, I think that's a wonderful thing, no matter what that may be.
I certainly don't want anyone here to feel obligated in any way, but feel free to share your thoughts along these lines.
Maybe this should be for another thread, as I don't want to hijack Mike/Amimbari here!

oh hell these threads are for the videos, but who cares, the video is always the first post, and anyone checking out the thread would see it, as well as the twist in conversation this and others have in them. The video at the beginning is just the trailer for a much bigger conversation.

Yeah the willingness to break from a common trend does seem to unify all of us in one way or another. And the willingness to think for oneself...
