Slight change of plans

I did a bit of trickin' to a squier jazz instead of the Ray

Started as this factory squier 60's classic vibe jazz

then came this

Change of plans DSC01892
now it's this

Change of plans DSC01889
Change of plans DSC01906

I added black Schaller tuners with a black string tree jobby.
Black Kahler 7410 tremolo a black control plate with black knurled knobs.
removed the thumb guard deal.

I'm contemplating a different pickguard, more of a red tortoise shell one.

Bootsox, what is a tugbar?

from Wikipedia:
"The use of the thumb was acknowledged by early Fender models, which came with a "thumbrest" or "Tug Bar" attached to the pickguard below the strings. Contrary to its name, this was not used to rest the thumb, but to provide leverage while using the thumb to pluck the strings. The thumbrest was moved above the strings in 1970s models and eliminated in the 1980s."

it's the little black thing below the strings.

Just never heard it refered to as a tugbar ... But that makes sense I guess.

Sounds like a flotation drinking establishment pulled up and down the mississippi river.

I've been wanting to open a bar for a few years, I think I've got the name and theme now.

So I'm hearing a bit of squeaky-ness with my tremolo. it seems to be coming from the bridge saddles in strings but
i'm not 100% sure. Does the Kahler need to be lubed or greased anywhere at all?

when you turn the tuners are the strings binding in the nut causing the creaky-ness as well?
every now and then I have to add some graphite to the plastic nut for smooth operation, and ya my Kahlered bass is REALLY creaky when the nut is binding on the strings.

Thanks a lot. I've since added black dunlop strap locks and a black nut.
The factory nut was horrible. A and E string slots were so wide the string moved along
inside it.

are their certain points on this Kahler bridge i should lube? Is WD40 good, or a silicone or maybe a lithium grease?
I don't want to get my guitar too messy though
I have a bit of squeakiness when using the bar but i think it's just the strings creaking along the
bridge saddles and it's moved.

WD40 will work fine. Silicone or lithium grease are also good, but as you say, you have to take care to make a mess with it.

Usually, I just give a little shot of WD40 on the brass rollers. If you wanted to get some lube in the bearings, I suggest using grease. Just a dab will do fine. The squeak you hear might be the springs as they move. Mine does this, and I don't know of anything that can remedy this. And with the trem mounted, they are almost impossible to get at anyways.

I had a guitar with some weird trem that worked sort of like a vibrola meets screen door hinge years ago that I pulled out of a dumpster, the spring in the trem had rusted and I just drenched it in 3 in 1 and it stopped squeaking. if it's making a pinging noise then I've heard of people taking bits of plastic tubing and putting them inside the string. supposedly it works pretty well but I haven't tried it.
