Wanting a new Kahler Empty
PostSubject: Wanting a new Kahler   Wanting a new Kahler EmptyFri Apr 23, 2010 8:37 pm

First off, thanks Eric for the invite, secondly I am in quite a rough delima here. I currently have a Fernandes Gravity DLX 5 that I love. Been wanting a Kahler for it and I am leaning towards A 2415 for it. I currently have no way to take pictures of my bass so I'll have to use one I found on the net that is the same as mine. Any advice would be appreciated.

advice? whaddaya need to know?

this bass is a decent candidate. plenty of realestate from the intonation line to the back of the bass and the pickup. i'de go with a rear facing saddle model so the back of the kahler base doesnt end up right to the butt end of the body, but you could probably get away with either.

the string path from the nut to the tuning keys is also ideal.

hey eric! any advantge forward saddle vs. rear saddle models as far as performance that you know of?

Awesome! I plam using the rear facing saddles thats why why I chose the 2415. tHE 2405 is front facing I am unsure how much room Idd have. I also worry about the arm scalloping making sure i dont run into that, but frome what I micked up with a template printed off I should be ok

Great to see you posting here, Shadow! Wink

I took the liberty of editing your picture size down, since your original picture stretched further than the page size normally does.

MadMike, as you have also observed, the Fernandes does have a lot of real estate for a Kahler. I don't know of any major performance differences between a forward and rearward Kahler, so I think that either one will work fine for Shadow. But to be totally safe, I am completely certain that a rearward unit would work with no problems whatsoever.

Isn't that why we're here? To annoy the guitarists? Laughing

OK, Dewey it is! Wink And don't worry about the picture size, Bro. As the admin of this place, I can make anything pretty. That is....except for myself! LOL! Laughing

One of the things you will find in posting here is that many of our group do things on bass that stretch the boundaries. The idea of using bass trems is considered "outside the norm" by it's very nature, so everyone here tends to think a little outside the box. Some more than others, but at the same time, with a sense of still doing what we as bass players have to in order to fulfill our primary role. Like I told you before, as long as we hold the low end rhythm down, anything else we can do on top of that is icing on the cake. And as anyone here can tell you, I believe in the cake, but I like a LOT of icing! Laughing

Thats part of my small mission make them made and make the cake how I want it. Strawberry? Nope its chocolate lol. Like I told you bro I am using what I have until something perks up or I get noticed, and actually one thing that made me want to do just bass was S.M.V. their sont Thunder floored me, I;m like MANNNN! I've had that idea but was told it couldn;t be done hmmm typical guitarist lol.

I have always approached the whole idea as working towards being true to myself. You, as an artist, have a right to express yourself, and don't ever allow anyone to take that right from you. Yes, be true to being a bass player, but don't compromise yourself in the process. You have a right of expression, and I feel that you are obligated to yourself to follow that directive. We are NOT limited to the whims of what the guitarist wants.

This may or may not work for you, but personally, I have walked out of MANY projects where I felt that my creative expression was being compromised. Because, at the end of the day, I have to feel comfortable with the canvas I have painted, and I do not, and WILL not, let others dictate what that is. True, it is the end result that matters, but at what cost? If you are not happy with where you are, then move on. Be true to what your responsibility is, but don't lose yourself in the process. To thine own self be true.

Yes, it takes work. Yes, you will piss off a lot of players. Yes, it will make it harder. But what are we as musicians doing this for anyways? If all we are doing is serving the whims of guitarists, then what does it matter? NO! We are a relevant part of the band, and as such, we have a right to put our personal signature on whatever it is we do.
