| Next to Kahler in terms of popularity, the Hipshot bass trem uses a fulcrum-style design similar to a Strat. In addition to bass tremolos, Hipshot is known for their wide range of quality guitar and bass parts. Their website is at: www.hipshotproducts.com Four-stringer: Fiver: | |

| Nah. I got outbid when I wasn't looking. I wasn't completely sure what bass I was going to use for it anyways, but I figured I might get another SX for it. | |

Same here, I want to try one badly, Thing is, a lot of people say you have to have them tilted up a little, for pull back, wouldn't it make more sense to have a rout in the back for 'em, like a floyd, to tip into?

| My thoughts exactly, Bill. Although you could have it installed to where it bottomed out on top of the body in case you were only after dropping notes instead of pulling up on them. For me personally, having an un-locked trem float is dicey at best, since you can stretch your strings flatly out of tune if you pull up too far. | |

| Out of curiosity, assuming your bass can fit either, is there any advantage to a hipshot over a kahler? | |

| I've heard that the Kahler has greater range than the Hipshot. I haven no experience/evidence to substantiate that, though. I'm sure a Hipshot would have a different feel to it. It's a fulcrum system whereas a Kahler is a cam system. It'll probably feel a little "springier" while the Kahler will feel "smoother". Does the Hipshot have any upward action? Or can you just use it to drop the strings in pitch? | |

So I hear, the Hipshot is bouncier, and the Kahler has more range. Its much easier to adjust how many springs are on the Hipshot, thats a bonus.

I bet if you routed behind/under the bridge like a Floyd you could get some decent upward action. - Kugelspot wrote:

The main bonus I can see would be that since it's a Hipshot that looks like it has removable saddles, that gives you the option to add a graphtech ghost piezo system, which is not possible on a Kahler.

| ^ That might be kinda cool i guess. It would only be worth it if you had 5 basses and at least 1 already had a Kahler, and even then I'm not sure you could justify the cost (unless you're EH and put a trem on everything)
Actually... Eric (or anyone else I guess) do you have any basses with Hipshots you'd be willing to try that with? The end result might be kind of neat.

I bet if you routed behind/under the bridge like a Floyd you could get some decent upward action. The Hipshot, when installed is actually tipped at an angle, so you can pull back on it. You don't want a lot of upward action on a bass, strings will snap.

Have I ever shown you Guys my kazoo with trem? And yes, I will one day throw a Hipshot into a bass to play with, and I will probably over-route the cavity to get as much play out of it as I can.

| Kahler should make kazoos. Fine, handmade brass kazoos. They made golf clubs...that's almost a kazoo. | |

I recently stumbled over this link: http://www.brownsguitarfactory.com/Under acousi-midi conversion they describe piezo saddles they've made for kahler bass trems. As far as i know they're not on the market yet but i was quite excited when i read it also because i recently purchased a roland divided pickup wich isn't by far as nice on a bass as piezo saddles.
