This has been a surreal time, with Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett both gone on the same day. Now Billy Mays has died. He was the guy who did the ads for Oxy Clean, and was co-host of the show Pitchmen. He was found dead in his home by his wife, and he was only 50.
I also remember hearing that Jay Bennett, former guitarist for the band Wilco died in May. He was only 45.
It's been hard enough with the recent loss of my Grandfather, but now hearing about all of these other folks just makes this time that much more saddening.

And Linda just reminded me, and I feel like such an idiot for not also mentioning Ed McMahon. As someone who watched The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson for years and years, it is really hard to accept that we have lost Ed as well.

poor kiddies huh? every ICONIC person who we grew up with is going to heaven. We had soooooooo much more than these kids have now for ICONIC actors, musicians, and quite a few other people who are now gone that their carrears spanning 20-30 years of TV..etc.
time for the kiddies to start coming up with new Icons, if there even is such a thing for the next 50 years of TV movies and Bands.
so many people still worshipping RandyRhodes and KurtKobain etc....still 10-20-30 years later, but they were ALL OUR ICONS FROM OUR ERA...LOL......

I often feel the same way, Mike. Sure, there is a lot of worthy talent out there, but 50 years from now, will Conan O'Brien be thought of in the same context as Johnny Carson? Will Brad Pitt be on the same level as Clark Gable? Will the modern guitarists and bassists of tomorrow be given the same level of regard as Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, John Entwistle, Jaco Pastorius, Billy Sheehan, etc., etc., etc.?
Take movies, for example. I love a lot of the movies today, but do I feel comfortable comparing them to such epics as Gone With The Wind, or The Wizard Of Oz, or The Godfather? Not really, no.
But it's still all part of the cycle of Life. Things change. New art comes along to share the stage with the old.
Kind of like what's happening to guys like us, Mike.

Sadly, not everyone worships past icons. A lot of my generation worship Tom Delonge and Pete Wentz. The thing is, every generation has a certain portion of it that have tastes that predate them. I'm the same way. I'm into classic rock and metal. Most of the music I listen too was released 5-20 years before I was even born, way before my time. My dad is mostly into old jazz music, so most of HIS music is 5-20 years older than him. And I bet my kids' generation will idolize Jack White and feel the same way about MCR as I do about MC5.

What about lemmy? I think Lemmy will live to 100. Think about it. The guy is immortal, he practically doesn't age.
Compare Lemmy then:
to Lemmy now:
BTW, while I was looking for a current picture of him, found a hilarious article
Plus, Lemmy is god. And gods don't die.
