carry on is the malmsteen metal version, the so far away is wildside, both played on my new 2b project bass that came with an emg select p-pickup, and fool for your lovin is whitesnake played on my midrangy Dillion MM copy with the RP50 distortion turned up cause the strings are so dead and there was no sustain--lol.

Bravo, Mike!
I can really hear the difference between your new 2B bass, and the Dillon MM. The 2B sounds more like your signature tone, whereas the Dillon sounds like something is missing.

ya the MM's strings are probably a year old, it never gets played, and I wasn't in the mood to fiddle with the mixing boards knobs to up the bass to the "other level" so I cranked the distortion up to make up for the difference
If I was to spend money on that MM, the pickup would be #1 to change, cause it is very mid-bassy to begin with. I do like the string spacing, the extra large and heavy maple body, but right now the tone sucks.
Collectors always get harassed about glass-casing their units, well none of these are worth that, so I do like to drag them off the shelf and beat on them all every now and then.

I think that is why I fiddle around with so many of these charvels. The tone I got is familiar, and I'm comfortable with it. If I had to re adjust everything for that midrangy MM, I would go crazy.
but I never had a bass with a emg select in it, and the output is way stronger than the OEM's.
have you any clue when this "version" was made, 10 years ago? 5 years.....cause the newer ones have block letters that spell select, not script?

Mike...I have a request. Maybe you'll dig this, maybe you won't, but I'd love to see/hear you jam on some Black Oak Arkansas. Hot N Nasty or Hot Rod, maybe?
Jim Dandy to the rescue!

throw the request in the thread for requests
ya I'm a loser with too much time on my hands, and can probably get it done tonight.
well maybe not the loser part........our band is missing a singer, and it looks like our schedule for the summer has taken a turn for the worse. eh, I'm employed, and as long as I can just jam ANYWHERE, even if it is in the basement being a JRBG or LRRG to the virtual youtube audience, I'm happy....
JRBG = jamroom bass god. LRRG = livingroom rock god.

Alright! Thanks, bro! I've been loving listening to quite a bit of BOA lately. I got a couple Goatsnake albums from a good friend the other week and one of them has a cover of Hot Rod on it proceeded by a story about a crazy adventure with Jim Dandy back in his heyday. It's awesome! They do a rippin' job of it. Of course.

naw, the sucky part left my emotions when we lost him 2 months ago. so we are looking, and when we find another we will just hit the stage again. my being at home jamming means nothing to me, as long as I have some outlet to show people what I like to do regardless if it is jamming solo in front of the videocamera, with friends, or jamming for the youtubers and YINZ GUY'S
If I never played on a stage again would it make me die or commit suicide?
hell no that's why I never wanted to pursue a musical carrear back then...too "IFFY"
sometimes I do get carried away with "posting myself", and never think about the "others" who want to really post also, and don't post because of the intimidation factor.
yes I stopped bugging you to post, because I thought I was trying too hard to get you to be "ME", and you don't need anyone harping on you constantly. Just because I have no fear about cameras, that does not necessarily reflect what others feel about posting videos standing in front of a camera.
someday, God willing, I will still be around to see what you have done with your bassplaying after a bunch of years, and enjoy and appreciate it fully no matter what musical direction you turn to.

Oh dude that's lame. What kinda band are you guys? I keep forgetting.
Hmm I get a little shy in front of cameras and audiences, but I'm by no means opposed to being in front of them.
Hahaha you should never stop bugging me about things like that. I honestly keep meaning to and I can think of a lot of things I'd love to jam out to right now. I finally have a camcorder, but I've also been trying to get it back from my drummer friend I lent it to for over a month now...she says she'll give it back to me tomorrow...we'll see how that turns out.
So in a couple weeks at most, you might get to see the illustrious 'boots on the You Tubes.
Hahaha trust me, you'll know what happens to/with me, if anything, man!

plain old "do-anything" rock band...the metal scene here is abundant, but filled with kiddie AD's that always state:
please be between 16-25y.o. --hahaha
I won't lie just to jam for them, but honestly, some of these kid bands are actually good, and for me to say that really MEANS they are good ( good enough for me to play with them ) and just NEED an older person who knows the ropes. but would I join one just to join?....nope.
or you get ad's that say: " 16 year old guitarplayer looking for stardom, as I have been playing for 1.5 years and my friends all tell me I am now good enough to make music my life so people with wives/GF/jobs need not apply, as this is going to be a full time commitment, and I dont want any of that stuff to interfere with the band's stardom " If you can dedicate 100% of your time to this band, please email me"
and the best one as the finish.... "420 friendly" --OMFG losers come in all ages huh?
I LOVE THAT ONE!!!
so, this summer is gonna be a challenge to get it together, and if we do...we do.

Hahaha quite a tirade! I assume you peruse the ads quite a bit? At least enough to be bitter and cynical about them?
Best of luck at getting it all together, man!

I hardly know where to begin!
Black Oak Arkansas! Easily way too underrated for the music they produced. And in fact, there are many who consider David Lee Roth to be a carbon-copy of Jim Dandy, and I can see why.
Mike, I don't think you hog the posting thing one bit. The fact is that the option is open to anyone who wants to post videos of themselves, and your posting is always welcome! Keep 'em coming!
And cut that talk of "still being around" to see Martin (or any of us, for that matter) posting vids. You might be an older dog, but you've still got a LOT of miles ahead of you. Heck, look at Ronnie James Dio! The dude is 70 for crying out loud!!!
I really cracked up with your ad example. I, too, see a lot of ads like that, and I just shake my head. True, I had dreams of "making it" when I was 16, but the difference is that I actually was playing out live three nights a week, recording in studios, and doing TV spots back then! Sure, it took a few years of slogging it out before I realized that fame was not to be had for me, and that actually made things easier, since I could focus even more on doing my own thing, instead of worrying about trying to be commercially successful. I used to hear things like "you've got a lot of talent, if only we could sort of mold you into...", and my response would be something along the lines of "mold this!"

YEAAHH! Jim Dandy to the RESCUE! Replete with star-shaped belt buckle, raspy voice, elk skin boots, and white spandex pants that splay his balls out against his right leg like an octopus' head against the wall of an aquarium!
Sorry...

Hey! It's only the truth! Heck, that's what we all did back in the day!
I recall one embarassing evening where we were getting ready to do a gig back in 1986, and a lady friend came up to give me a big hug hello....and...uh...let's just say that, in my black spandex...it was...uh...obvious that I was happy to see her! I had to hide behind a chair!

Wow, man...that's a TINY place. And after watching footage of them playing for hundreds of thousands of people in the 70s, that's just sad. They're such a great group. I mean, you'd think they'd be filling arenas, but nope.

I felt the same way when I did a gig with Pat Travers. You guys have seen the pictures from when I did the Modesto X-Fest in 2003 with the VH tribute Hot For Teacher (my avatar pic is from this show). Well, that was that very same show, and it was weird seeing Pat perform for a couple thousand folks when I remember him filling stadiums in the late 70's (Pat went on at around 3 in the afternoon, and we closed the show at around 9 or so). And it's not a knock on him at all, just that audiences change over time. I say that you gotta hand it to these guys that still manage to get out there, and make noise for people.

Yeah totally. It's just strange how few people are into them nowadays. Maybe it's just because they're so blatant compared to most of the other bands that they shared the stage with. They aren't much for subtlety, apparently...

I totally see what you mean. I love it when bands keep performing and everything, even though they know they are long past their glory days, and can barely fill small pubs when they used to fill huge arenas. Like the Blue Oyster Cult. I think it's awesome that, even though they've been around since the late 60's, and released most of their famous stuff at least 10 years before I was born, I can still go out an see them play, and rock almost as hard as they did back then. Same goes for bands like Motorhead or ZZ Top (or Raven ). But the thing is, thats the best way to not be forgotten. Look at a band like Diamond Head. They started out really promising, but were never quite able to match their first album and lost all momentum, and kinda got left behind.

so lets see...3 days to figure out how it works, after you insert a tape to record on,...uh 2 more days to find clothes to wear for the video, 3 more days to do 300 takes of the same song until you are satisfied it is good enough for posting.....
any more worth mentioning?

And what clothes to wear? Makeup? What song to play? ABBA? Barry Manilow? What about props? And staging? The lighting? Then the mixing part! And syncing the audio to the video! Post production alone could take months! Editing, mastering, negotiations with the record labels, PR meetings, radio ads...goodness! It might not be done until 2035!

speaking of delays, I was tired last night, but my friend Joe came down to watch the PENS just barely scrape a win out of the game, and when it was over, he begged me to show hin the changes in this song, I did and I posted a video of him playing my bass........
it took 20 minutes for me to beat the notes into his brain after quite a few "bloopers"
I do save some of them, and someday I'll post some of my classic bloopers, including one that the cymbal stand fell over, and the crash made me almost jump out of my skin.......
ya that is me in the background and NO thats NOT a joint I'm smoking !!!

Speaking of which Mike, congratulations to your Penns for going the distance! I think Stanley Cups that go to all seven games are far more exciting than if one team sweeps it in the first four.

Well, you've got only one more game you can watch before the season is over, and that's Game Seven of the Stanley Cup playoffs between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Redwings, which is being played tomorrow night. Whoever wins this one takes the Stanley Cup.

Haha yeah tomorrow, I'm going to be at the Sword of Judgment show. I've known the bassist for a while (amimbari--he has one SICK *** Jacson CS Warrior!) and one of my friends was kinda going out with him. Another friend is going out with their guitarist. They're up and coming, replacing everyone's favorite local band, Die By Day, who broke up last September.

i like valley of bones the best. It is the least of the 3 evils, but it is typically "let the bassplayer ride 1 02 notes" type of jams with no real expression in any way to distinguish it from the rest of the band.
the bassplayer is not even galloping with the drummers double bass just riding the string
