My new Seismic Audio cabinets Empty
PostSubject: My new Seismic Audio cabinets   My new Seismic Audio cabinets EmptyFri Nov 13, 2009 6:51 pm

I cannot tell you Guys just how much of a pleasant surprise these cabinets have been. From the rave reviews I read before I bought them, I knew that they would be a good choice, but I had NO idea just how much I was going to enjoy them! The 1x15 handles every bit of distortion signal I can throw at it, and the 2x15 is absolutely pure thunder! The only thing I might do is add ports to the 2x15 to get even more thunder out of it, but I have no complaints about how it sounds as it is. The guys I jam with now are really impressed with them, and couldn't believe that I paid so little for them. They tell me all the time "that rig of yours sounds amazing!" and I could not agree more.

Killer! I really want a 2x15 or 4x15 cab one of these days. It's great that yours is working out so well for you and for so little!

i'm actually really suprised that 2X15 isnt ported. you'de think it would / shud be.

lemme chek out the speaker cab calcualtor software i got and see what it recomends .............

winISD beta.

with the ruff spects that sizemic gives at its website, i calculated with specs close libraied with the eminence delta 15" ........

a proper vent (port) would require 6 ports at 2" diameter and 1.86 depth (tube) to yield a vent mach of .07 to be tuned close to accurate.

weird, never used dimensions like that, but any parameters adjusted + or - like # of ports, diameter or shape made the vent mach drop below .05 or into the negative. ideally a vent mach of .1 or close to it is desired to be tuned properly.

dont know how these calculations are calculated, or not following them what would result, but if you had a negative value vent mach ... would it "suck" air??? (2 vent ports at 2.5" flush with the cabinet front vent mached at -.28.)

from what these calculations tell me, i'm either way off ... or you wouldnt benefit from porting.

i've also used cabinets with the whole bottom as a port vent channel .... maybe this is where this comes in handy.

overall tho ... like eric sez and endorses, the reviews on these cabinets is great. i love my 15" and wanna replace the black widow with a more powerful eminence. i may just leave it and buy a new sizemic 2X12".

Let me see if I have this right, MadMike. I would need to cut 6 ports into the cabinet, and each port would have to measure 1.86" deep and 2" in diameter, correct?

Isn't there a way I could simply cut 2 ports into the thing? scratch

This sounds like a question that would best be handled by someone like greenboy or Bill Fitzmaurice on TB.

hey ... thats what the software told me.

i think the math worked out that with 2 holes ... they would need to be 7", or something nutty like that and it would yield the mach still under .1. i'de need to run the numbers again ... i'll do it tonite.

i think its one of two things ..........

either a cabinet like this (the physics of it) wouldnt benefit from ports ... how, positive or negative pressure, i'm not sure or ........

the software just doesnt handle the figures with 2 X 15" speaker cabinets. the thing is a beast.

i would definately consult someone who understands the physics before you start cutting holes in anything!

If you could re-run the numbers for me, that would be awesome, MadMike. I'd rather only cut two holes into the thing instead of six if at all possible.

I know how you feel about Talkbass, but I really would recommend posting your question there. A good number of TBers know a hell of a lot about this kind of thing and you could get your answer really quickly.
