I know we have a lot of metalheads here, so I was wondering what you guys are into?
I'm mostly into Classic metal, NWOBHM, and Thrash. I'm also starting to get into early death metal (Death, Morbid Angel, etc), but I can't really call myself a big death metal fan. Also, I'm a little into Folk and Viking Metal (Korpiklaani, Turisas, Ensiferum)

I want to check all of them. But I listen to lots of black metal...
Far too many groups to list--they're all awesome. But right now I'm listening to Immortal's "At The Heart Of Winter" album. Norwegian. But I'd say my favorite (well, Maiden and the Who have to be tied as my favorites), or perhaps the most life-changing band to me has got to be Watain. They're a Swedish black metal band and they are potent. Chaos, fire, death, and emptiness that seeps into your mind. It's great!
I think Stellarvore has got to be the coldest and most empty thing I have ever heard. And it's about a giant, tentacled thing eating stars...cool!
I think this is a great example. It's so simple, but really powerful. The only thing it leaves in my mind is...what is it?? There's some kind of foggy, cloaked, stumbling creature, but what in god's name is it?? I always kinda imagined it as the thing on the cover...but with some kind of face.
So I vote (SWEDISH) Black Metal

^ I really meant Norwegian-style black metal, as opposed to Venom who are not real black metal no matter how many f***ing times people say they are.
Anyway, damn. Those Watain songs are awesome. How the hell do you pronounce their name anyway? That 2nd song is prety cool. Actually, it seemed more like Drone metal the Black metal. While I was listening to it, I was thinking "AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! OH MY GOD! WTF! I FEEL LIKE MY EARS ARE BEING RAPED!!!!!!" Ya....... It's 2:45 in the morning, and after listening to it I feel a little paranoid.
This is what happens when I don't sleep. F***ing insomnia. I should stop doing this. It cannot possibly be good for me. I need to get some sleep. In fact, I should stop posting between the hours of 12:30 and whenever the hell I wake up, cause I ramble on and on about nothing, just like I am now.
Good night

Yes.
Seriously, yes.... I dig 'em all.
Powermetal does hold a special place in my heart though, espcially Blind Guardian.

You sound tired, dude
I don't know, man. I think that Black Metal is primarily a spirit, as opposed to a specific genre. So think of the how you want, but they single-handedly gave all the other black metal bands a kick start.
It's very good for creeping you out, isn't it? It's very honest and it's very extreme. Stellarvore is the slowest song off of their latest album, Sworn To The Dark. Watain exist hand-in-hand with Dissection. Their touring guitarist, Set Teitan, also played with Dissection for a while and E, Watain's singer was a close friend of Jon Nodtveidt.
Watain is the name of a track by the band Von. I'm not sure how it's pronounced, but pretty much like it's spelled. Since they're from Sweden, it might be intended to be pronounced Vatain...could look up an interview and find out.
Here's an excellent song off of their first album, and the title track. Talk about buzzsaw bass! It's hard to replicate by playing with your fingers. A very different feel.
This is my very favorite song off of Sworn To The Dark, the Serpent's Chalice. It opened my eyes to the abyss. Glance, if you will, at my avatar

So did I, and I wanted to vote for more than one choice!
We love Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell a lot, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Tool, Slipknot, System of a Down, and a lot of other things along the lines of prog and black metal.

Since you mentioned them in the old forum, I got their cd, love it! Like Motorhead meets black metal.
The Storm I Ride is fantastic.

Awesome! Yeah that's such a rippin' song! It's their tribute to the greats (Venom, Motorhead, Bathory, KISS, etc.) who influenced them the most.

I like a lot of different metal, but oddly enough I don't like most "classic metal" as it were (early Black Sabbath being the main exception). I love really heavy and evil sounding doom metal (Ahab ftw!), and I also love metal that draws from a lot of different genres (Unexpect also ftw; especially their bassist!). Lately I've been digging metal that has some middle eastern flavor, like Orphaned Land and Melechesh.

I do enjoy some Nile every once in a while, but overall I like Melechesh more. I have the albums: Djinn, Sphinx, and Emissaries; they're all pretty good.

Nice. They have some pretty rippin' stuff, but they also have some pretty laid back things (The Scribes Of Kur comes to mind).

God I just got around to downloading that album. SO F***ING AWESOME!!!!! I've still got the riff to The Storm I Ride stuck in my head. I haven't even heard that song in hours.
Know any other good black 'n' roll bands (or any black 'n' roll bands period, for that matter)?

I'm glad you like it! I know...that song got me HOOKED as well!
Other kickass black 'n' roll bands. My favorite is Taake. Check out their newest release, entitled "Taake" Hoest, the man behind Taake, is a very strange fellow, but a very inspiring one as well. To give you an idea, he released an EP that was written and performed in a way that he hoped would lose some fans. Anyway, the video for Umenneske is addictive!
Also maybe check out Rotting Christ, (newer) Satyricon,
If you want to venture into darker relams, I recommend Marduk. They've become more "black 'n' roll" since their lineup changed drastically in 2004, but still pound on with their trademark blasting cadences. Especially this track. It's tasty and it's dark.
Here's some of my favorite Marduk footage, them with my favorite lineup at their peak of togetherness and brutality on the World Funeral tour. They're playing a song off of their second album...with them, they stray from lumbering, rockin' riffs to very fast and very furious in the blink of an eye. So they're a bit of an acquired taste. But give their latest album, Rom 5:12 a try--I think it might grow on you!
Speaking of which, their old bassist B War was incredible (check out his grooves on stuff like Azrael or On Darkened Wings...talk about distortion and midrange) and so was their old singer Legion too bad they fell out with Morgan, the guitarist because they are fantastic showmen.
