| Art's posting about Kenny Aaronson got me thinking about other players that are unsung heroes on bass. Great chops, awesome tones, bring it!
Mars Cowling (Pat Travers Band)
Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy)
Gary Thain (Uriah Heep)
Stanley Sheldon (Peter Frampton)

| Right on! I knew Mars. He got us tix to see Pat at a club in Miami. He's verrrry underated. He also played in a band called "Gypsy Queen" Another P Bass player.... Lynott= GOD Sheldon=Monster I haven't heard of Gary Thain. I thought Bob Daisley played with Uriah Heep? Also, You guys forgot a dude by the name of Arthur Hernandez from "Mr. Peabody". He's soooo underated that he's unknown.... | |

| OK, OK....maybe I should have titled this thread "Unsung Bass Heroes Other Than The Rest Of Us Unknown Douchebags"! Let me try to clear up the history of Uriah Heep for you, Art. Uriah Heep started playing in 1969, and they are still together today, albeit, after many member changes. In the course of their history, they have had six different bassists in the group. Gary Thain was with them from 1972 until 1975, after which he passed away from a heroin overdose at the way-too-young age of only 27. He appears on the album Uriah Heep Live which I strongly recommend to anyone who is a fan of classic English hard rock. Bob Daisley was with them from 1981 until 1983, and appears in Uriah Heep's MTV video for That's The Way That It Is. The other Uriah Heep bassists were: Paul Newton (1969-1971) Mark Clarke (1971-1972) John Wetton (1975-1976) Trevor Bolder (1976-1981, 1983-present) That's everyone's Uriah Heep bass players lesson for today!

| Ok ... my favorite "stand in the back" or "whatshisname" bass players.
Tony Franklin- Roy Harper, The Firm, Quiet Riot. Most of US know who he is... he has a fender P signature model ... but most don't know who he is. I don't like his p bass, but I do love his tone and playing style.
Stu Hamm- Steve Vai, Gary Hoey, Satriani, solo ... and more stuff that I hear constantly but he never gets credit for. I dot know a band where he originally came from ... researck .....
Wow ... I didn't know stu had asp many solo recordings.
