this was the FIRST time in all the years that the HRC has been here that they were smart...let me explain.
2 bands, us and a highschool band on first. the parents of approx 50 kids asked about reserving tables. that is obviously allowed for kids to come and eat but they usually are gone by 930-10 when the bands start. HOWEVER, the owners saw a golden opportunity and sectioned off an area of the room for "under21". Totally blew us away. The kids stayed all night, the bar owner got at least 500-800 more in food sales, and thanks to the 50 or so kids that came@ 5 bucks a head..both bands got a lot more to take home !!! naturally the MC had to explain the no-alcohol rules before the bands got started. Thgere was no incedents, no fighting, no crazyness, just a ****load of kids who enjoyed themselves. many thanks to the Kevin at the HRC for his "smartness"
there's many pics and vids from the show on FB today but here's a couple:
. now here comes the uh-oh part... I forgot my mackie was in bridgemode, and for the last 1/2hour I smelled electrical burning. I have to check my cab this week because I'm sure I smoked a voicecoil on one of the speakers in the cab. ---ooooops.

haha mike....in Pitts it's a really crazy thing to see anything like this. A very smart moneymaking move on the owners part for sure.... will it happen in the HRC's future? OH YA I'll bet on it if a teenage band plays there again and brings in that many people !!!!
Thanks to our performance at the HRC, we were approached by a promoter and we now have the opportunity to do a show coming up in a few months with the band Black+Blue http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_%27n_Blue at a place called Grims Roadhouse ( we played there before ), but it is still up in the air as we won't do pay-to-play shows, well this time we may just do it as some magazine crews will be there to film some stuff for B+B.
so what do we do?, get on stage with a bigname band by selling 20 tickets @ 15 a piece to "hope" we get airtime on the filming or name dropping somewhere somehow nationally?..... If we do not sell the tickets and just give them away, it is a typical pay-to-play event and we would have to come up with the money ourselves.
always an opportunity in the works that may or may not get us more than local recognition. --who knows. The band will be discussing it this weekend.

YA Y+T was up there playing with a friends band as the opener in Nov when I was up there just to support their band and I did pay for a ticket to help them out. man do professional bands charge a lot to play a shitty 200 seat maximum venue ---hahahaha
I will probably hook up all my junk tomorrow and see if I can break out the ohmmeter and see if I cooked a speaker on sat night.

You're joking! Y&T was there??? They are a legendary institution in our old stomping grounds of the SF Bay Area of CA. You're lucky that you got see them. A couple of bands I was in did some shows with them many years ago.
Their original rhythm guitarist Joey Alves was a good friend when I was in the Van Halen tribute Hot For Teacher in 2003. He used to come to a lot of our gigs. Really cool dude. No ego, and a diehard Raider fan. The first time I met him was my first show with HFT, and I was in shock when I was introduced to him! I was like "dude! You're a legend!", but he was like "no, no Eric....I'm just me".
And as a sad fact, their bassist Phil Kennemore just passed away from cancer. Another loss of a great bassist of rock who had a lot of influence on my playing.

What's this crap about "nothing special"?!? Dude! Those were KILLER! Two of my favorite cover tunes of ALL time! You Guys really sound great together, and your bass tone comes out really well! I also like the job your singer did! Bravo, Mike!

i think it was cool you got to hear the "all the teens are gone, we can open the middle back up" schtick the MC said...
Detroit is easier to hear the bass for sure and the house sound guy is a friend of the bands, and has done sound for us at other places..he knows his job..the guitars are pretty even so you cant really distinguish them until the splitoff for the lead.
I was teasing the Jackson forum boys today, cause there's a thread with plenty of action/stage pics, one, maybe 2 Jackson players at most and your typical fender Warwick or EBMM player, but i told them to find me a band with 3 Jackson players red white and blue USA themed axes and 2 of them being lefty. ( just not in those exact words cause you cant swear here ) so funny to look at them cause me and glen are short and mike and Dillon are over 6ft. so that night we had Dillon who is 17, and Justin the drummer who is also 17 ....and "the old guys" all on one stage
it's so fun when nobody has to practice for months, ya just get out there and jam what you know already.

That sign cracks me up! Reminds me of when I first started gigging in bars at the age of 16, and the club owners used to have a cow when they found out the bass player was so underage. Of course, this was back in 1982, and it was easier to pull it off. Nowadays it is all but impossible for underage players to do.
