| Interesting find! Personally, I think V's make terrible basses, since they are more prone to neck dive, and they lack the amount of wood to have any real sustain. Yes, I know, you can correct the neck dive by moving the strap pin from the end of the wing to the inside of the crotch, but there is still the sustain issue. I remember trying a V bass in 1982 all excited since I had seen them on MTV and I thought " That is the coolest thing ever", only to be really disappointed. It felt awful, and every single V bass I've tried was just as bad. I did once own a Kramer V that was a gift from a friend, but nothing I did ever made it feel completely right. Still, that bass would make a really interesting addition to someone's collection. Hmmm....that white plastic tip on the trem arm....since when was that an option? | |

| yeah ... it is interesting ... if only to "have". personally, i look at a bass to { "play"}. even if this was cheap (its not ... its really a gibson) i still wouldnt have money for it. i dont think i'de ever own a v ... just doesnt look like it would work too well.
explorer style on the other hand???
i dont know if gibson ever did any production options with kahler ... so thats an aftermarket mod (just like all the rest of us???(and our basses???)). i would suspect that trem arm tip was an add on after the fact.

| I am all but completely certain that there was never any direct relationship between Kahler and Gibson. And you're totally right. That tip has to be an aftermarket thing. As you observed, MadMike, it's just like we all do here. | |

| all I can say about that thing is...IF I had the money to buy it, I wouldn't...lol
I'm with Mike, V's are cool and I have had enough v-guitars, but if I had to toss out a lot for a V it would be better used on an Explorer.

| LOL! Hondo! Man! I haven't seen of those in ages! Our local music store had them in spades. I also remember Cort, and there was another econo brand that I can't think of. Nowadays, we have the web for cheap basses! I ought to know! | |

| maybe the one your thinking of is Bently ( series10 ). VERY popular like music-Yo that sold Korean Kramers? Bentlys almost always came as a p/JJ setup typical plywood cheap retail stuff until the early 90's when the came out with the alderwood "pro" line then the company bit the dust.... | |

| No, that wasn't the one I was thinking of, although the Series 10 does look familiar.
Hmmm....not Arbor....not Aria.....see, this is driving me crazy because I can picture the guitars in my head, but I can't remember the name of them! I do remember that they typically came with black hardware, and they were the first guitars I ever saw that had black headstocks. I seem to recall the letter logo was in red.

| Aria did make some fine Explorers, though! The ZZs or something? You could stick a Kaher on one. I think they might be medium scale as well. Or you could get an Ibanez Destroyer. I personally would not want to put a Kahler on one, but I have seen it done many times. | |
