I broke a string and replaced the set.
The HipShot is a fulcrum style bridge. It balances between the spring tension and two round bearing posts.
When the bass is "in tune" theortically the bridge is plumb with the body and raised about 1/4" off the body.
Problem: If I bring the new strings up to pitch, it puts enough stress on the bridge that it now is tilted forward and I lose the whole step drop.
I am thinking that every time you change strings, you have to change the spring tension accordingly.
And that is why the plate that the springs attach to is floating off of the routed cavity.
Before I start adjusting the spring tensions, does anyone know if that is trick to keeping the bridge
square with the body and bass in tune?
Nevermind.... I just Googled it and you adjust "the claw" in or out to keep the new strings in correct pitch and
the bridge flat with the body. Gonna do it right now.
Gotta love that "google".
