| Heavy Metal Legend Ronnie James Dio (born Ronald James Padavona) has sadly passed away this morning from his battle with stomach cancer. He was 67 years old. Without a doubt, my all-time favorite metal vocalist, and the man we have to thank for the infamous devil-horns hand sign that metalheads know so well. From Elf, to Rainbow, to Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell, and his solo works, we have truly lost one of the greatest vocalists ever, and I am absolutely devastated by this news. R.I.P. Ronnie! You will be missed! | |

No no, it was a hoax. When the news was first released, it was a hoax (or misunderstanding or whatever). But now he is dead. His wife confirmed it.

| Guys....seriously....this is like having a piece of my heart ripped out. I cannot even begin to put into the words the impact Ronnie had on my music. But I will try. Bear with me. I am seriously grieving his loss, so much so that I have tears in my eyes as I write this.
I remember very clearly when Ozzy left Black Sabbath, and thinking "OK....now what?". Then Ozzy came out with his solo work, and I thought "that's cool....but what about Black Sabbath?". Their music always represented the darkest and heaviest of metal to me, and I was sure that it was gone forever.
Then I heard about Ronnie joining....and then....I heard Neon Knights for the first time....and I went "WHOOOOAAAA!!!!". Just when I thought that Sabbath was gone, they came back even darker and heavier than before, and I never looked back. Later on, I discovered Ronnie's work with Rainbow, and even some Elf, and I was forever hooked. This was made even more so with his solo work, which I always liked, but not as much as I loved his work with Sabbath. With Ronnie gone from Sabbath, the music that followed was cool, but not the same. I figured I was lucky to have gotten to hear him with Sabbath at all, but I always regretted never getting to see him live.
Then a miracle happened. The announcement came that Ronnie was re-joining Sabbath as Heaven and Hell, and it was on again! Linda and are extremely lucky in that we got to see Heaven and Hell twice, and we were really looking forward to the next tour. We figured Ronnie would live forever, so when the news about his stomach cancer came out, it was quite a shock. Don't misunderstand me here. Of course, Ronnie was just as human and mortal as the rest of us, but I honestly didn't expect him to go so soon.
We are still in shock, and I cannot get my mind around it. No more Ronnie, no more Heaven and Hell....it's all too much. This news has left a horrible hole in my heart, because there will never another singer like him.
I don't know if there is an AfterLife, but I am hopeful. Because if there is, I'm making a spot to jam with my fallen music heroes, and Ronnie is right up at the top of the list. It's like the old saying goes, "I don't know if there's a Heaven, but if there is, they've got one helluva band!" .
Thanks for letting me vent, Guys.

| I've come to the conclusion that death sucks.
I know that it's part of Life, and we all will go through it one day. It's just that seeing those that have touched you in some way fall leaves a mark. Whether it's a loved one, or someone you've admired, it is never easy.
We watched That Metal Show on VH1 tonight, and oddly enough, Zakk Wylde was the guest. They've been running these tribute ads for Ronnie. For whatever reason, it feels better knowing that we're in good company in our grief.
