| Maybe so....but I think and even better thing would be if I could actually read! I just realized that we didn't hit 7800 posts. The numbers along the bottom of the board are so small that I mis-read the actual count! We're still in the 7700's. So maybe the spirit of this thread ought to be something like "as we close in on 7800 posts". | |

this is the more important statistic: We have 33 registered users Here's some more cool statistics: Out of the 33 members: 12 were on the original site 14 (or 15, we'll see how long 13 Stitches stays around) are considered occasional or regular posters (by me) Of those... 3-4 never saw the original board (and we really needed some new blood IMO) 3 are from Washington state (and another visits there often) 5 from the west coast 3 are from the east coast 3 are from the Chicago area 8 are under 20 3 are over 40 (and another is pretty close) 5 are famous/prominant/notable 6 have never posted 1 was a regular but is now MIA

| Not only all of that, but we've also learned that Kugel has way too much time on his hands! JUST KIDDING, BRO! Seriously, we are still a small group, but those that do participate are thoroughly appreciated. Part of it is in getting the word out there, and with my limited....OK....non-existent budget....there's only so much I can do. Still, we do come up in Google searches, so it's not like we are totally invisible, either. I didn't start this place with any grandiose ideas of having a million members. The point has always been to provide information to those who use a bass trem. That's all. One of the things that I do notice is that we get a lot of passings hits from non-registered users, so I imagine that we get a lot of folks who are simply looking to get a question answered without having to register. I'm certainly guilty of that myself. There have been numerous times that I've found the answer to a question by cruising some forum, but I didn't want to become a regular contributor. So it really doesn't bother me that we're small, and I don't take it personally. This place isn't about me getting any accolades. It's about providing information. If anyone out there wants to benefit from Our collective knowledge, that's up to them. If not, it's their loss. Like I always say to you Guys, I appreciate each and every one of you that is here. You are what makes this place what it is. | |

Like I always say to you Guys, I appreciate each and every one of you that is here. You are what makes this place what it is. I agree with everything you just said. I love this small, close knit community specifically because its a small, close knit community. If I wanted a board with 1,000,000 users, I'd be on TB more often. I've noticed we get a surprising number of unregistered users here too. I was wondering if anyone else saw that BTW, about the google thing, thats how I found this place. It was just something I thought of maybe doing one day, so I did some research and found this place (well, actually it was the old site, but close enough). If you search "bass trems" or something like that we're pretty high up on the list. I know its not the most mainstream topic in the world, but for a board of 33 members, I'd say we're doing pretty well.

| Even the part about you having too much time on your hands, Kugel? Seriously, I agree, although I did hope that we would get closer to the same numbers as we had over at the old Kahler board. But again, it comes down to visibility. Since bass trems are such a niche item, there are probably a lot of players who aren't even aware that there are any resources at all. The other thing is that the information we have here isn't rocket science. It's not like every single bass trem user in the world has issues they can't handle on their own. Anybody who has ever read those first interviews with Eddie Van Halen in Guitar Player magazine back in the late 70's/early 80's can get, with some refinement, the majority of the information needed. All I know is that, in order for me to get the results I was after, I had to do a lot of experimenting along the way, and I didn't have anywhere I could go to for help. In purest truth, that's why I made this place. I didn't want others to have to go through what I did. I've heard a few players say that they had once tried a bass trem, but could never get them to work properly, so they gave up on the idea. This always bums me out, especially being where I am now in my own understanding of bass trems. I want Kahler, Hipshot, Bach Musik, ABM Mueller, etc., etc., to keep making bass trems, and that takes having a demand. The way I see it, the more we can help hold folks interest in them, the more likely they are to stick around. I know that I never want to set foot on any stage without a bass trem in my hands, and if the supply ever dried up, those would be some truly dark days for me. So part of my incentive here is keeping the bass trem concept alive. Case in point. Steinberger. Sure, Ned will knock one out for you....at a cost of ten grand....and why so much? Because, as the folks at Steinberger have already told me/us "there isn't enough of a market for them", so they are now a "special order" item. Now, if "the market" had the demand for them, we'd have a different story altogether. The other thing is that when I created this place, it was done in the spirit of my usual, wide-eyed, easily fascinated little kid that lives inside me. Tremolos have always fascinated me. The act of taking the strings, and dropping the entire mess downward always seems so....so....I dunno....wrong, and yet, it works. OK, hold on....wrong is not the right way to put it. Unusual, perhaps? Violent in a non-harmful/destructive way? Primal? (WHAT?) I'm trying to put it into words, and like usual, I am failing miserably. I've just always loved the sound, the feel, the ability to go beyond the limits. So the fact that as bass players, we can still do all of the above is just more icing on the cake. Hell....I ought to just write a damned book....like I usually end up doing here anyways!

| i thought this was a message board for tips on making cookies. i originall came here to figure out how to install one of these twisted newfangled bass doohickies. then, like eric, i stuck around to share with others what i learned so iddid be easier for them than what what i went thru (and wasnt all that bad ... thanx to btf's help). i stuck around longer to show others that there is so much more we can do on our own, without sticking to the bassist 'status quo' and eating whats fed to us by ibanez, guitar center, mainstream radio and nickelback. lets be more innovative kiddies! woo hoo! now i keep comming because btf is a great place to fling gooey globs of my insanity and obsessive / compulsive behavior ... and you all tolerate it! hahahahahhhahahahahahahha! btf rules. | |

| Well-put, MadMike! Bravo! Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter 3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar 3/4 cup sugar 2 large eggs 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1 (12-ounce) bag semisweet chocolate chips, or chunks 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon fine salt Directions Evenly position 2 racks in the middle of the oven and preheat to 375 degrees F. (on convection setting if you have it.) Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone sheets. (If you only have 1 baking sheet, let it cool completely between batches.) Put the butter in a microwave safe bowl, cover and microwave on medium power until melted. (Alternatively melt in a small saucepan.) Cool slightly. Whisk the sugars, eggs, butter and vanilla in a large bowl until smooth. Whisk the flour, baking soda and salt in another bowl. Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients with a wooden spoon; take care not to over mix. Stir in the chocolate chips or chunks. Scoop heaping tablespoons of the dough onto the prepared pans. Wet hands slightly and roll the dough into balls. Space the cookies about 2-inches apart on the pans. Bake, until golden, but still soft in the center, 12 to 16 minutes, depending on how chewy or crunchy you like your cookies. Transfer hot cookies with a spatula to a rack to cool. Serve. Store cookies in a tightly sealed container for up to 5 days. | |
