| took all my stuff apart last week in anticipation for saturday's benefit concert for Haiti victims here in a club called fate lounge and wanted everything to work, so now my rig has changed and I wanted to share. the signal chain goes like this.. tuner/ganiac/mixer/amp one of the channels on the mixer is the washburnWRB eq so it's not in the guitar chain to minimize hiss. the SHS amps - I bought 2 for 300 bucks, and although they say 1200@8ohms bridged, uh hahaha not on your life, probably a 1/4 that, but it does push the limit of my 4x10 rated at 400w before the clip lights come one. One amp runs the 4x10 and the other the 2x15 both bridged using the left/right outputs on the rack-board. ( I suppose with 4 separate ins and outs now and the mixer, I could do the stereo thing like Eric does or multi effects on the left and on the right ) let's hear it for cheap gear that works !!! | |

| there's a little hint on a good rack-preamp for you Eric...the WashburnWRB 46 is an excellent old unit, ( there's one on ebay this week WITH the 4 pedal footswitch ) and the Gainiac on the clean channel is also a great bass booster beyond the cool 12ax7 distortion channel. | |

| Cool! I found the Washburn unit on eBay like you said, and it looks really good!
I think that for my dirt, I really need to locate a DOD G7 in good working order. It's just that Grunge distortion patch. I have never heard another distortion on bass that I've loved so much.

| what I meant the Washburn for was for your preamp project, not a distortion box..it adds no distortion ( or hiss ), and the gainiac for distortion that won't remove the low end when you turn it on..... if Kugel is right, then you have 5 chances to get your dream pedal again.... | |

| Ah! Gotcha Mike! Sorry, little slow on the uptake due to being ancient. Know what I mean? Yes Kugel, I have also seen that the G7 thread from here does pop up in Google searches. I think that's my original thread from when I first mentioned it here....oh shoot....when was that? A year or two ago? OK....gotta search eBay some more. FIVE G7'S ??? | |

No no, not 5 G7's, 4 FX69's, the pedal the patch is based on.

| Ah. Now I see what you Guys mean. I think I need to clarify things a bit here. Yes, I am aware that there are a lot of Grunge pedals available. But the unit in question has to be a DOD G7, and not just a DOD/Digitech Grunge pedal. While the distortion design is almost identical between the two, the Grunge does not come with a mid control, which I have discovered through countless experiments, is absolutely critical to me in getting "that" sound I love. The G7, on the other hand, does come with a mid control. I have also seen the DOD G10, which was an updated version of the G7, and I am led to believe that it would work as well. And both the G7 and G10 come with noise gates, pitch shifters, and all of the other usual bells and whistles one might expect with a multi-effects unit. I've even seen the Grunge patches show up in other DOD/Digitech multi-effects pedals that featured full EQ's, and I've come very close to pulling the trigger on one before. So....if anyone hears of either a G7 or G10 going for cheap, let me know. | |

| I believe it would be safe to say that you've come to the right place, 13. I once tried a Boss ODB, and to be honest, I hated it. A lot of players like them for their tone, but since I like a distortion that will peal the paint off of walls, the ODB didn't do it for me. If you are looking to do a stereo setup like I do, then your choices of distortion sources are virtually limitless. You can test-drive guitar as well as bass units without having to worry about killing your low-end. I guess that the best place to start is to ask what it is you're after exactly. What kind of tone do you envision? What kind of response did you want? Mike, let us know if we de-rail your original thread too much. | |
