Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!! Freeride has such a great bass line to it, only made better by your covering it, Mike. And Bob Hewhart! HA! What a great trip back!
I am still in awe of your tone, Mike. It is pure thunder, and the clarity is unreal! It must be a blast to stand in front of a tone like that!

that "tone" as you put it, is just a cheap Jap Charvel...BUT that model 4 I like the best for "tone" out of the lot of them....
it's the preamp. ( martin knows about the j-2000 preamp sound from his 3b )
as far as amp+ cabs, I'm just using the bass blended with the mp3 thru the PA speakers for my recordings, nothing special, nothing "powerful or huge" at all.

That may be so, but like I always say, it's the results that count. And whatever it is you are doing, it get's you the results!

Speaking of the j2000 pre...would you be interested in having the one out of my 3B? The two tone knobs don't work and I want to change the pickups out of there anyway. I know you've mentioned wanting one in one of your 1/2Bs or something, so let me know if I decide to do that if you could use it or not.
I agree with Eric, man. Does sound killer. In any case, you make it sound great on those YouTube videos!

haha 25% me, 75% camcorder microphones....I can only say that I let the camcorder take most of the credit. I will not post youtube videos where I have to actually spend time editing audio into video, change my clothes, wipe the prints off my black bass...etc, and make it sound and look "professional" ( what's the point? ) for free videos that mean nothing more to me than a video diary online to show people some inverted goodness, who cares.
( I did post a similar reply in the "OLD" board )
ugh, actually LEARN songs for a one time youtube video? --- hahaha NEVER

Ya Martin, I was gonna put the preamp in the black 2b since all I have to do is drill a hole for the p/u switch, an easy job, since I have my 3, 4b's for a live in my face wiring diagram.
in fact, I still have the OEM p/u's from the black 1b when the guy sold it to me with EMGs he threw all the old stuff in a bag. I think they are 500k pots.
my point is that if I had that preamp I would find a use in one of the 2b's ( even the lefty one ), OR MY Epiphone Tbird, which I always wondered what it would sound like with a built in EQ, and would not care about drilling a hole in it at all.

Some day soon, if you want, I wouldn't mind flipping that preamp to you. Would be happy to get it out of that bass. It needs a bit of a fresh start and I feel the urge to make it mine. I'll let you know if I take it out, then
