New Member...

Hello all,

I just registered on this site, so I figured I'd tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Ryan, so you can call me that if you wish instead of big_mits. My username is big_mits because I have them, as well as big feet. I am constantly teased about my "tug boats"

I play multiple instruments, but for the most part I focus on piano and bass. Piano was my first instrument, and I picked up bass about 8 months ago now. For piano, 90% of the music I play is ragtime; I love me some syncopation! For bass, I play basically whatever, and that's why I really like it. I love experimenting with new sounds; and I love the idea of having a tremolo on my bass! Although I do not have one at the moment, I am in the development stages of building my own bass, so I will definitely have a trem installed on it.

Well, that's about it. I could bore you more, but for now I'll keep quiet

Ya I was a member here for like a year without a trem. In fact, I still don't. Its in the shop right now having one installed (its been there for a month already... I went there today after school and the guy said that the guy who was supposed to be working on it is on vacation, and will be back on wednesday. Should be done towards the end of the week )

So ya, I wouldn't worry about it. Most of the trem discussion is either random troubleshooting stuff or lusting after weird, obscure, and often long discontinued trems in the Other Brands section. You won't feel left out

So anyway, don't keep your mouth shut. We need more regulars here.

i joined here to get as much info as i could before i attemped an trem install on a bass. members here were a tremendous source of information. 2 installs later, i consider myself pretty darn good at it, but only because of the help i got here.

..... and i continue to gain information here from other members experience. we dont just talk about trems.

well, until I found this place, that's kinda what I thought about them..eh, a wanker toy to noodle with...

next thing I knew these guys gave me an education. Like the gang says, you don't have to have one to be here, as there's a whole lot of other non-trem topics to choose from....

p.s. I STILL think it is a wanker toy

So, Ryan, what kind of tremolo do you want to have on your bass? What kind of bass do you hope to wind up with?

I'm not really sure what kind of trem I want on my bass, that's kind of why I joined here, just to see the options and decide later. As for the bass I want to end up with, that's a harder question...

I just recently upgraded to my first "real" bass, a fretless Warwick Corvette Standard, that I purchased off of eBay; it's amazing. But the bass that I want the tremolo on would be a bass of my own design, which I am in the designing stages of already.

And about trems being a wanker toy to noodle with...Well, you're pretty much right. But they are awesome, and I love the idea of having all options available sound-wise with my bass.

Well, we're big Kahler fans here, and for good reason. They have more range than anything else on the market, and only need top routing, so they don't mess with your tone. If fact, they're better than most stock bridges. And personally, I'd feel bad about installing most trems on any bass that was even remotely nice because I just don't want to cut into it like that. Instead I went with a Kahler, and am getting it installed on my Spector, which is probably the nicest bass I'll own for a long, long time.

i dont think a kahler 00 or hybrid would fit on a warwick corvette either way ... and here we go again with the guessing back and forth from the intonation line deal. i just dont think theres enuff wood behind the bridge.

but if your designing a bass of your own concotion ... space is something to take into consideration. kahlers cover quite a bit of real estate. i have some spec sheets and mech drawings i made up here somewhere of the 7410 hybrid i could send you ... i just gotta find em first. it has more info and measurements on it than you can get from kahler.

i posted it somewhere else here ... anyone know how i can find it???

They definitly do. Warwick offer it as a custom shop option.

was just thinking about it again .......

a hybrid would fit on a warwick corvette ... they got that 2 piece bridge and stop dealie. plenty of room in the rear section.

i dont know where you live or what units of measure they use there, but here in the usa we do our drawings in inches.

FOR THE RECORD, since that picture is so damn helpful, I've saved it to my computer...just to have it on hand for all of our reference. Thanks again, Mike!
