A true pioneer in terms of using a bass for more than it was designed for. Randy is an incredible player of frightening ability. His website is at: www.randycovensite.com

RIP Randy
So bummed out he is gone, he was truly a master of the bass guitar. When watching his videos I can't decide if I should practice more or just throw my basses away!
Found this picture of him today with a mystery trem on it
And a close up
Anyone know what it is?

I've no clue what trem that might be, but it almost looks like a custom job.
Yeah, sad news indeed. I didn't honestly believe it myself when I first saw the headlines. Truly an amazing and under-rated pioneer of bass. RIP, Randy.

Awesome picture of Randys Aria Pro II
Wish that bass could talk, looks like it'd have some interesting stories to share! Here it is in Randys Hot Licks video.

excellent example of having to place a kahler in the right place to get the intonation right. so its hanging off the back ... so what.
also a prime example of countersinking the whole trem base to get the action right. those aria pro II necks were pretty tight to the top of the body.

Looks an awful lot like my own homespun hack jobs I've done on my old basses. Gotta love the spirit!
I would be willing to bet that those pickups are DiMarzio Model J's. They are side-by-side humbucking Jazz design, and they SCREAM. I've used those pickups many times over the decades, and they are easily one of my absolute favorites.
