this guy Jacob joined the Jackson board, and he's from a pretty popular band on youtube, so here's my tribute to him/them. The Charvel Eliminator bass I'm using I bought when rusty on the TB board wanted it, and didn't have the cash at the moment, so I bought it off ebay for him, and it will now be shipped to him. this is the only song you will hear me play on it, cause I just wanted rusty to hear what it sounds like before he even gets it.
their page is myspace.com/ageofevil . very late 80's rockish metal sound on this particular song.

the whole story was I bid on a white one and lost cause I want a white one for collectability, then impluse bid on this red one AFTER I bid on the red 2b that should be here next week sometime.
I accidentally won them both, the eliminator for 200 and the red 2b for 170.
I knew no matter how fine it does sound, the eliminator bodyshape is just no good to flip, even with the strap pin on the back. The day before I won it he said he wanted one after he saw a friend with a red one, so i said here you go , take this one....he paypalled me a few days later, it finally got to me, and tomorrow I'll ship it to him.
I wanted to make him know that there ARE nice people out here and give him a listen to what he was buying....
does your yamaha cost 200 or 2000?

LOL! Honestly, I'm not sure. It's the BB414 I'm after, and I have no idea how much they run.
Besides, I was only kidding you.

this thing is a very good pre-amped growly rock bass. Nice lightweight body, and the typical neck that they all used for years so it "feels" the same as everything else I own.
...but look what the retard seller did---tell me what's wrong here....

Awww, CRAP! If I had the $$$, I'd be all over that bass!
And as far as what's wrong with this picture, first of all, it looks like the guy doesn't know how to properly string up a bass. Those rinky-dink knots on the posts are a joke. Second, and it's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like the truss rod cover is missing.

YA thats it...the cover is missing cause someone was probably trying to tweek the neck for the retard who strung it up on the tuners backwards...

I tried winding the strings backwards on the posts on my Kelly to help the tuning stability. Didn't work. As far as I'm concerned, it's just another bass with a really cool hardtail on it.
And Eric--they still make the BB414, right? I think you can get them at American Music. Some time soon, you'll have your BB!

Actually, they do!
Well...let me explain that a bit. Yamaha first introduced the BB series back in the early 80's, and they featured several different variations from the very basic and cheap BB200 all the way up to the mondo tricked-out and expensive BB2000. My first one was a black BB300 that I got in 1983, then I later replaced this with a red one in 1989. I loved both of these basses like nothing else, and in fact, my red one was by far the very best sounding, feeling, and playing bass that I have ever owned. Playing that bass was literally effortless. And the BB line was so bloody constant, I could literally walk into any music store, pick up any bass from the BB line hanging on the wall (assuming it had been set-up properly, of course), close my eyes, and play it like it was my own. I knew every single millimeter of those basses, and I still do to this day.
Then in 1996, my beloved red BB300 was stolen from me, and I then learned that Yamaha had stopped production of the BB series to focus on the new RBX line. So I figured that I would never be able to replace mine.
Then a few years ago, I learned that there had been quite an outcry from players that missed the series (myself included in a few grumbling emails to the company), so they decided to bring the BB line back. But instead of bringing back the entire line, they chose to focus on only a few models, and introduce a few new variations:
It turns out (and I have confirmed this by comparing the different models side-by-side) that the specs, dimensions, and neck profile of the new BB414 actually mirror that of the old BB300. So when I can afford to do so, I will grab me a couple of BB414's to tweak to my specs. And when I do, I will probably not ever play another model of bass again.
The Michael Anthony model intrigues me because of the cool design, color, and neck-through design. BUT, the body style is slightly different. Look at the horns, and you will notice they are smaller than those on the regular BB models. This throws me, as I think the smaller horns look a little goofy, and furthermore leads me to believe that it might have a different feel than the regular BB's do.
OK...and I will address a question that I get quite a bit on the subject: why not a Billy Sheehan Attitude?
A few reasons.
1) There are already too many comparisons, and to play on Billy's bass would only make that worse. I am my own player, and NOT a clone of Billy, or anyone else for that matter.
2) Pricey! Have you priced an Attitude lately? Maybe they've become cheaper now, but I remember when they were around a grand or so. And given the punishment that I dole out on my basses, along with the fact that it is completely unnecessary to go bankrupt to play a good instrument, I will NEVER pay more for a bass than maybe $500 or so.
3) And the biggest reason of all...I don't actually like the Attitude basses. Nope! Not one bit! They are heavy and clunky to me, and they don't feel right in my hands at all.
OK...thread hijack is over!

That sounds like me and my Blitz. I've really bonded with that thing. I know exactly how I like it set up, every inch of the neck, and precisely how it's going to sit on me. At first, it was awkward, but it's everything I've wanted in a bass. Now, if I could just trick one out with some Ricenbacker pickups, I think we'd be in business. It takes no effort to hold, unlike almost every other bass I've played. I want another in case anything happens to this one!
I've played a lower-end Attitude bass and I liked it a lot. I prefer a glossier finish on the neck. It was modded with EMG active P+J pickups. Not anything like what I've seen Billy play. If it were more like the higher-end Attitudes, I would have been persuaded to give it a thorough play-through, but what it was was pretty much a really sleek P bass with the same features as my Kelly.
And apparently, Billy's coming out with a BB series signature with a very X2N-looking Yamaha pickup in the neck. I think you might have to accept the fact that you and Mr. Sheehan just have a lot in common, Eric!

I think Yamaha makes those, too!
I was just talking to my boss the other day about how Yamaha makes everything. Motorcycles, mixers, instruments. God damn.

Time to break out the trusty old black paint!
Actually, I might do what I did with my Tokai Jazz, and VH-stripe my SX. Just for laughs, you know.

Nah. I want to replicate Eddie's uitar as pictured on the first VH album, like I did before. It came out really good, actually!

I know. It's a pity since yellow on black VH stripes looks pretty sick.
The black on white thing? That did look badass. That's what's nice about larger-bodied basses like that...more surface area for stuff like that.
