| OK, Mike, I am wondering how your bass and playing would work doing something like Perfect Strangers by Deep Purple. What I am really envisioning as that if you were to play chords, the sound would be crushing since you have such great tone to begin with! How 'bout it? Then I was wondering if YYZ by Rush would be something you'd want to do? Again, with your playing ability and tone, I can well imagine it would sound humongous! | |

| I saved both of those off of youtube this morning. YYZ is easier despite the song being harder cause I used to play it a lot, but at around 7 minutes, it is a long one, but do-able.
PerfectStrangers I actually NEVER heard before, so I just need to listen to it for a while and just do that one also.
you'll know, cause I'll post em in the video section if I can get the time to mess around in the jamroom this weekend.

I found that on rhapsody radio, and MB....wouldnt you like to hear a ear-bleeding-speedball-fingerpicking metal tune instead?? . Sounds good! I love jazz too so if you ever feel inclined I need to get a video camera, I'll do some Clarke

I need to get a video camera, I'll do some Clarke thats funny I only have old 50's swing music, no jazz, as once I was ridiculed by the masses about me playing jazz on a Charvel-metal-bass....I told them too fu**ing bad isnt it. just like the many jams I do that were originally done on an upright in an orchestra setting... it is NOT authentic but the notes are correct just so you know, the camcorder I have is a JVC mini-DV model GR-DVL310 which is my second one ( after I dropped and broke the first one )...which is not new but has an excellent audio circuit in it ( it NEVER EVER distorts the audio no matter how loud even sitting in front of a PA speaker at a bar. here's what I paid not too long ago for this unit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=170311965598

| I don't really believe in Metal basses, or Jazz basses, just basses. True, some pickups are hotter than others but any style can be played on anything. Lots of metal bassists use Jazz basses made by Fender, Mike Lull, Sadowsky etc. And I've seen jazz bassists using Charvel as a matter of fact, or growly Modulus basses. | |

| Mhmm...Mike's double bass on a Charvel impression is pretty swell | |

| I agree with you, Jeff. Although it would appear funny, you could perform swing jazz on a zebra-striped Charvel Explorer as much as you could do speed metal on a Gretsch. Did I spell that right? | |

| just reading through and i guess dusting off some old topics you guys have discussed previously ...... The whole "that is a XXXX style bass" pisses me off .... my yamahas tone wise lean towards rock, i am a rock player, and i play in rock bands but we do jam some stuff which is so way off topic. EG: Our guitarist does eruption live, and its only fitting that you then do you really got me, but in the middle we kick back and experiment with real off the wall segues ... zappa "lets make the water turn black/jaco the chicken/the bangles "walk like an egyptian".....
The types who wanna pigeonhole stuff/people and in this case gear arent folk whose opinion should be sought or even acknowledged IMVHO.

| Couldn't agree more, Bro. I play in a metal band, but we do covers of Lady Gaga and Chris Issac, albiet, metal versions, but still. | |
