| spraying metal flake is a pain in the hiney. the conical shape of the spray leaves witness lines at the slightest variation of angle ... you got to shoot straight on 100% of the time. you cant spray it wet ... you dust it on so all the flakes stand up so it takes more coats and overspray makes a huge mess. once the color is down it looks all bumpy and furry ... you gotta seal all that in and build it up real slow with dry coats of clear so the flakes dont flop. it takes like 4-6 cans of clear! its a lot of work but i guess, if you want a dramatic look, its worth it.
i just want to build another bass. i have a block of mahogany but that is gonna be for a guitar i think. so i'm gonna be starting from scratch if anyone has any suggestions. no whang-casters please.

| Learning how to build instrumennts involved talking to a lot of people who knew how to do it. Some of them showed me examples of their crafty work. They shouldn't have.
Some people should not build instruments. Custom does not mean building something so that it looks like something else ... offensive.
Lemme go check something .........

| I went to see if bunny bass had their amusing basses section. Its not running anymore. Hey eric ... maybe on the new site ... amusing basses photo collective? In the meantime, I found this, if only to prove that yes, people do this. http://www.carverdoug.com/1.jpg/wang/wang.7.jpg | |

| Normally, I'm the one with the funny come-backs for such things....but in this case....I am totally speechless. Although " I'll bet that thing is HARD to play" came to mind! OK, thread hijack over. I've never owned a bass with quite that color of purple before, but it is really gorgeous. My old Tokai Jazz looked black from a distance, but was really a dark metallic flake. Up close, it was really sparkly. Your pictures reminded me of that. | |

| I kinda wish it was a bit darker ... almost black. This was a stock nitro lacquer color out of an aerosol can. I also wish it had bigger flecks of metallic in it but not more like the bass mike posted. All black hardware always helps.
Nect couple of projects, I think I'm gonna start popping cans, mixing my own colors and spraying with preval units. If I want to start experimenting with the metal flake, I'd need to get a compressor and paint gun .... someday.
Thanks eric ... glad you dig it.
