A good candidate for a tremolo system

This new Schecter is coming off the press as we speak, it got good reviews as a powerful, bottomy sounding bass over at TB. It has that look that I think would look great with a trem. Who knows!

Looks good, but those A and D string angles at the headstock concern me.

Maybe they should have incorporated string retainers.

schecter has improved the quality of their basses over the last several years. they play real nice! i really liked one i played at some chain music store but didnt buy it ... somethin about the shilouette dancing girl fretboard inlays i just couldnt get by. ha!

i dont know how you would get by that funny angle of the a and d strings ... might just work out fine with the 13degree peghead but you wont know till you try. isnt there any string retainer system out there that works on a roller system like the kahler bridge saddles do?

I'm on the fence about Schecter basses. Sometimes they look cool, sometimes they don't. I don't think I'd ever buy one, though. They used to have a cool shape (there's a Cannibal Corpse DVD where Jack Owen uses the guitar in the same shape), but they're even wackier and pretty rare. I think that they're like ESP for a different audience. They feel very similar to me, but I have a bit more of a sweet spot for ESP.

The headstock does worry me as well. I don't know if that headstock situation could be cured at all with any kind of retainer system. I have an idea as to how, but I don't know if it's realistic or anything...

I haven't regretted buying it for a second, very fast neck, lots of tonal options, neck has stayed straight. It's a very good backup in case something happens to my primary bass. I recorded Fallen Angel using it and recall getting some compliments from some of you on the sound

You'll also notice the C4's A and D strings line up straight with the neck.

That is a pretty cool lookin' bass. Kinda looks like a PRS guitar to me. I think I tried one of those out and I remember not digging the neck too much...but they aren't for eveyone.

They do have a PRS look to it, the neck is very fast to me.

It was fast, but almost too fast. It just felt like the wood was in all the wrong places, you know? I guess I am used to and in the mood for different shaped necks.

It's almost like a slim Pbass neck, and not as deep as a Jazz bass neck. After playing my custom p/j the Schecter neck feels like a pencil. I almost see it as a guitar neck on a bass.

Yeah true....but so much of the bass's vibe comes from the neck. I like it, but it's not me, you know? I really really want to try an old Ric. I think that's the neck and bass for me. I love the slim Ibanez or ESP necks, but I always have a soft spot (period ) for thrashing on a baseball bat type neck.

Bill/Darkstrike uses roller string trees, but I cannot remember where he got them from.

You can buy them from Warmoth and I'm pretty sure Stewmac and Allparts carry them.

Another good candidate 6th from the bottom, it's been defretted but Pedulla 5 strings aren't found for under 2K that often!

The string angles on the headstock worry me and so does the amount of room between the end of the bass and the bridge pickup...it would suck if it didn't work out so well (like on my Kelly).
