uh, Mike about that IronBird and you said no kahler on it???

http://cgi.ebay.com/B-C-Rich-Vintage-4-String-Electric-Bass-Guitar-Kahler-/270732462494?pt=Guitar&hash=item3f08e9899e

put a fuggin kahler on it and sell it look what that one is bringing in with 5 days to go still!!!!

EDIT: actually I looked at the bidding, and mystery bidder with 27 points is retarded, no doubt about it because if that thing hits a grand, someone is gonna have to pay a lot of fees for shill bidding, AND if mystery bidder 27 don't pay, it's gonna get relisted and probably sell for normal prices as it should, but if it is getting that much money..wow!

a few things i noticed.

the kahler on this thing is a forward roller kahler. this means there is even more bridge that needs to sit behind where the intonation line is supposed to be and there already is a lot with the forward facing rollers.

the ironbird has that square that sticks out the back of the rest of the shape of the body. the white one has a fender p/j style plate bridge and that goes to the back of that square that sticks out ... that bridge is as far back on the body as it can go. a rear roller kahler needs at least another .8" further back than where the back of a plate bridge falls.

if this bass does have the kahler installed properly, i would bet that it was installed at the factory ... meaning the body was manufactured slightly longer to accomodate the necessary extra bridge butt so that the saddle rollers sit where they need to be to be properly intonated. b.c. rich does offer guitars with factory installed kahlers, so if they issued this bass factory direct, i wouldnt be suprised.

if this kahler was installed aftermarket and the body style is identical to the white one ... i would bet a sandwidge that its not properly intonated. meaning its not a proper install. meaning this is ebay and you get what you get. i didnt measure the white one yet, but i know from doing a p bass, that, properly intonated, the rear roller kahler sits back way further than the plate bridge ... almost off the back of the body.

i do like the pickup selection on that bird tho ... nasty hot rails.

Anything like that hitting those numbers has to be factory.

And sure, the body would be different. farao

we're off topic of aperfectcircle here. oh well.

i did some research mike. heres what i found ............

b.c. rich ironbird standard. this is all the n.j. series, overseas and low end models. notice the short but end at the base of the bridge.

APC Ironbi10
APC Ironbi14

b.c. rich ironbirds with the long tail. these are the ones from california and the custom shop and signature models. not in these pictures, but you'll notice the "R" logo on the headstock of most of them. i wonder if they used this body style for certain years only or certain models to accommodate the kahler trems ...................

APC Ironbi12
APC Ironbi13

.........because i did find another with what appears to be a stock kahler trem ........

APC Ironbi15

you'll also notice where the top body wing comes into the bridge on the top two short models are at different angles ... the short angle cuts back to the bridge square body spot where the other is one smooth line to the 90 degree. there are other subtle differences in the body shapes that i posted to like bevels and the top front wing bevel or not beveled into the body.

neto.

also notice the differences of where they put the split p pickups on the ones with higher end electronics and p/j configurations.

I'm not totally certain, but I seem to recall that the Ironbirds did have Kahlers as a factory option back in the day. In fact, I believe the first picture I ever saw of John Gallagher was of him playing an Ironbird with a Kahler on it.

i'm really digging the 4th one down ... the one the guy is holding. a kahler would def fit on that!

those two short ones at the top ... i'm not so sure.

just cheked my kahler scematics ... 1.9" from the intonation line to the back of the kahler. i gotta go down the basement and measure now ... be right back .............

Yes, this one is a solid .5" too short. See how the ones on the top have no overhang? The 2 below it have .5"+ ... fits a forward saddle kahler.

Actually, it wasn't an Ironbird I saw with John, but was an ESP lightning bolt bass. Wink
