Got started on the first of a lot of routing jobs today...
#1 make a pearloid black pickguard for the attitude bass.
I just got finished cutting the basic shape and my Dremel 300 took a dump. I've had to repair this once already ... brush melted into the housing. Its only 3 years old. While I was waiting for new brushes to come in, I bought a 300 cordless ... the main shaft snapped in a month.
Now ... Dremel tools aren't the best for routing. They are easier to handle because they are smaller than a full sized plunge router, but routing is ruff on them. Then Dremel shouldn't sell the tools to do that with the roto tool. That's 2 I killed in 3 years with moderate use.
I went out to buy a craftsman router.
The chuck was .25-.5 ... doesn't fit the bits I have. With the router and a set of bits I was up to almost $200.
I bought a new model Dremel trio for $100. It fits .25-.125 bits with the chucks I have already ... and this thing is designed for routing. Also comes with a straightedge stop and a circle cutting guide.
Downside ... there is no cuff for routing with a template. I got a shure hand ... I can make due.
I finished the pickguard this afternoon. It looks almost identical to a factory cut pickguard.
Then I installed a kahler on my new project custom bass in 2 hours tonight. Piece of cake. Ill post that bass soon.
