Well, finally got around to re-birthing the trusty old 82 Jap Blazer...new Dimarzio Will Power pickups and a Kahler Trem....oh yeah and a sand down n repolish.
Hers is a picture of it gutted after I took to it with the router n sander (painted all cut outs with black acrylic paint to seal). affraid

Then I fitted it up with the new pickups and trem to make sure everything fit.. Very Happy

Then I wired it up... scratch

Then I had a beer (or three?)... drunken

Then I strung it up for the first time a set up all the fundamentals, height, intonation etc... Very Happy

Then I went upstairs and plugged it in..FrankenBlazer LIVES!!! Very Happy

Well, this was the first time I took to my bass in such a major way, only changed out pickups before. I thoroughly recomend it to anyone thinking about trying it out for the first time. Just take your time, research the internet and local guitar shops etc for advice and information. Enjoy!!

By the way, the Will Power pickups rock..freakin thunderous!! cheers

Woah sorry I missed your thread, dude! Welcome and SICK AXE! I appreciate early 80s Ibbys and those Blazers are rad. It must roar with that Sheehan P!

I can confirm that the Will Power pickups have a lot more 'presence' than the std Dimarzio Ps i had before. I play with a pretty heavy finger attack on the strings, and there certailny is more 'chime' to the strings, without the excessive noise you can get from active pickups, previously this bass had some SD actives in and it just got too noisey.

I am also toying with installing a Dimarzio Ultra Jazz bridge pickup where a traditional J bass would be? Add another vol pot and see how she rips then? Only trouble is once I route outside of the pickgaurd there ain't no going back!!

Ooh I have to get my hands on one of those some time...I'm already in love with the Model P. I've heard that the Willpower P sounds like vintage (PAF) DiMarzio Ps.
