someone may be interested. i have a p with a kahler so i'm not interested. why i say, "suspect" ... i had to coutersink my kahler and this one isnt on this body. i think someone tried it and couldnt get it right without ... so they gave up.

its a nice hunk of p body ... if it is in fact a 78 ... who knows.

you figure ... a new p body is about $100. this is an older model kahler (not a hybrid) and their worth about $250. lowball him just for the worth of the kahler. doesnt state anything about or show an arm.

Hmmm....I dunno about this one. scratch The Kahler does appear to be an older 2410 Kahler, but the true identity of the body, who knows? I'm not saying that the guy is lying, but this would be a gamble. If he is correct about the body, then the overall cost would be about right, as you observed MadMike. Or, you could buy a new 7410, a new body from an after-market dealer, and have the thing routed correctly for roughly the same amount of money.

The one thing that caught my eye is that routing pattern for the electronics. Why is there that weird off-shoot? And what's up with that hole in the middle? I'm not a Fender expert by any means, but I have seen a few bodies without the pickguards over the years, and I cannot recall ever seeing routings like that. In addition, his owns words seem to imply that he is trying to say that he isn't completely certain about the thing.

"This body seems to have been stripped down to natural presently with a satin finish. Judging by the routes, it may have been finished in white or red at some point. Not too sure."

Maybe I'm nit-picking, but if he knew that he had an actual 1978 Fender body, I would expect that he would be a little clearer about the description.

"Probably Ash."

Were 1978 Fenders made from ash?

Does anyone have any insight here?

Personally, I say proceed with caution, Folks. Wink

i just posted it because its a kahler for sale.

even if i wanted a p body ... i dont think i'de want this one.

yeah ... weird hole. sticking out forward of the cavity.

might be a fun project for someone else but if i wanted to do something like this, theres plenty of places to buy quality p bodies relatively cheap.

I'll do just that at work today, I'll offer 150.00 and see what happens...

I LOVE the part of the ad that says this:

I included the bridge due to the altered state of the bass. New screw holes accommodating the Kahler are different from stock. The pickup and bridge cover holes still exist though. A stock bridge can't work on it in the present state. The route could probably pretty easily be filled though (and hidden) if you like.

he pretty much said it without saying it .... IF it is a real 78, it is now worth peanuts BECAUSE someone put the kahler on it

True.

I think it would have been worth more if the thing had been complete.

this guy must be high.

i dont know where he's getting his info from, but even if this is a 73 ... or whatever year he sez it is, it aint worth anything more than the kahler on it. theres no way to tell if the routs are in the correct places (kahler / pickups) and no way to tell if the neck pocket has any integrity.

i still dont see evidence of an arm and i also see an improper install on an unassembled bass ... that means to me i'm buying a kahler off someone who doesnt know squat about kahlers ... so iddid only be worth $100 to me.

its e bay. he'll find a sucker.

Of course I'd try to make a lower bid first...

I completely agree, MadMike. scratch

You could try to lowball him a bit Martin, and since he's already dropped his price by $20, he might be willing to bargain a bit.

But for a total of $400 (OK, the bass body, shipping charges, rounded up to make my math easier), I'd rather go shopping.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SWAMP-ASH-BODY-FENDER-P-BASS-GUITAR-PRECISION-/270461921772?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item3ef8c969ec

See? The same parts for $254. Throw in a $75 route job done correctly (and even free if you can do it yourself), and you get brand-new components for $70 cheaper.
