he gave me this!

i couldnt just look in the box ... i had to pull it out and play with it ... even tho its not going into my cabinet till tomorrow .....

it just fascinates me that carvin can offer a 600W speaker at that price (cheap!). i dont think its poo ... but we'll see. i'll post a review on the sound quality after pounding on it at practice tomorrow and sunday.

i also got my tip ring sleeve to send and return 1/4 cable for my second channel processor hook up. i'll let you guys know how that works out as well.

the tip ring sleeve send and return didnt work on the single channel. i was either getting clean channel from both, or effects on both.

i dont understand how these jacks work ... or how they are supposed to.

the 600W carvin is definately louder, but not by much before it overloads and distorts ... and doesnt sound any better than the peavey black widow. its a good speaker ... but not the best.

so thats 2 8ohm speakers bi-amped at 8 ohms for 475W / 300W or bridged in parallel at 4 ohms for 1350W ... and i would still expect more.

heres how.

current cabs paralleled for 1350W @ 4 ohms and a new seizemic 2X15 with 2 more 8ohm, 600W paralleled for a cab 4ohms with 1200W ... bi amped out of the carvin.

or perhaps the current rig, biamped with the new 2X15 and another amp.

obsessed.

its never good enuff.

Headroom probably has more to do in this case with a) the enclosure and b) the fact that there's only one speaker than the speaker itself. If you had a 2/3/4x15 in a larger enclosure, you'd probably have much better power handling.

carvin talks about, when you get to the level of having plenty of wattage (600W biamped / 1200W bridged!) that the only way to get it louder is more speakers.

its nice that i have this problem now. just running 300W was killing me. i still have my peavey mach III and will hang on to it for recording with lower levels ... that amp just sounds great ... but pushing it to get the most i can out of it all the time has its limitations in sound.

today was the first practice i got to really kick in this 15". i got to practice about an hour early and adjusted effects, eq's, levels and progressions of chains to accomodate the new speaker. then i cranked it to see how much it could take. almost there. i'm happy. this speaker handles the rumble with clarity. i didnt feel like i was in competition with my drummer all day. i even told my guitar player to turn it up ... twice. i even boosted the levels of the lows in the master eq to rumble my grundle. it was exciting!

santa came and gave me a sack of cash for xmas ... so i think i'm gonna grab that seisemic 2X15 sooner rather than later. biamping my current rig with another 2X15 will be cool. i'm also looking for a rio grande vintage powerbucker, a decent pa system (300W + 2X12" will do it), and 2 wireless systems. geeze ... thats like a grand right there!

i guess i'll get up and go to work tomorrow.
