....ugh....

Broke the arm on my Kahler fiver.... 22069011

OK. To be fair, the arm had five years, and countless gigs on it. But one thing that had always bugged me was that it took a lot of effort to dive bomb. So off to a visit this past Sunday to my guitarist Andy Beech who built my Twin basses to extract the broken piece, and while we were at it, I realized that I had left all six springs in the trem when it was originally installed.

scratch

He was like, "that's an awful lot of torque. Maybe pull a couple springs out?"

I was certain this would result in it taking Forever and a day to get the trem to settle, assuming it would even return to pitch at all. Well....sheesh....guess what?

It now operates smooth as silk, returns to pitch, stays in tune, and is ultra-easy to use. Go figure.

Like I have always told you Guys, I am no expert, and still have the capacity to learn something knew about these things. lol!

Lesson learned. Four springs on a Kahler fiver works perfectly well.

Yup. Much better now. I did a similar change-over on my four-stringer, and what a difference. The trem operation is so much smoother now, and requires less torque. A good thing, since my age is really starting to catch up with me in my arms and hands, lol.

That does say "hybrid" on it, right?

Chinese steel. Made out of recycled Plymouth Horizons!

I always had hybrids with no problems, except for the factory "one off" I was getting off eBay from a not to be named, self proclaimed hybrid dealer. I sent these bad casts back to him for replacement 7410's.

I'm not surprised. Kahler has changed their product since ... No more hybrids. That means more cost. Idk if they are now better quality or made in the US of merica now.

I haven't bought a kahler in a while. Got 2 jobs on the bench now. Ittl be interesting to see what I find.

Yeah, MadMike. Hard to say what exactly is happening over at Kahler now, but it does seem that a lot of different things have changed. And I honestly believe that the arm broke due to me putting up against all six springs. Also, bear in mind that it took six years for it to break. Not too terrible for recycled Plymouth parts, lol.
