Another great P-style pickup from DiMarzio. Each coil half is a complete humbucker in and of itself resulting in high output, and awesome gain. The double bladed pole pieces cover the entire range of motion, and are noted for their ability to pick up every subtle nuance, and increase sustain.

I'm thinking of putting one of these into my Destroyer, my Charvel, or my Hamer. Hans really digs these, doesn't he?

I believe so! But I'm not sure if it's these, or the old Willpower version he uses.

Hans?

I have to admit that I don't think I'll ever use any other brand. I have tried a few others, but I always go back to DiMarzio.

I'm curious about Seymour Duncan, for sure...to see what "the other side" is like. But little things prevent my from trying them. Like adjustable pole pieces and the X2N. Duncan soapbar vs. the DiMarzio Model One and X2N...I'm much more curious about what DiMarzio can do for me Laughing

It's true that Seymour Duncans are also some really great pickups. I once used a set of their traditional P-style, and they sounded great. But it's more about the fact that I have had so much great luck with DiMarzio's that I find myself falling into the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" groove. Wink

Ooh cool. At the moment, things about my basses are broke...and I think DiMarzios will be the perfect remedy. Wink

DiMarzios rock the house, Duncans are pretty nice, but DiMarzios are suprior, IMO.

DiMarzios and Bill Lawrences for me please! Very Happy

i have one of these in my washburn b-10. what a difference from the original washburn pickup! like having a whole new bass!

i'm thinking of putting this model in the fender p i am refinishing with either a mighty mite Passive Soapbar Pickup MM-MMSP4-R/BK or a semour duncan phase 2 passive humbucker in the bridge position.

ultimately ... the fender p bass project is not going well. the dye is not the color i was shooting for and the wood is really weird in accepting the stain ... thus the weird color. i've raised the grain multiple times with water, alcohol and steel wool and even gone as far as to bleach the wood. i may just end up painting it blue and calling it a day. if i rebuild this thing and am not happy, i will end up rebulding it on a custom body with the parts or doing something else. $300 neck ... darn straight i'm gonna use it on something else! its ok ... this was all just an experiment anyway.

Does it sound/work the way DiMarzio describes it as working?

i dont know exactly what dimarzio describes (i know i've read it in the last few days) but i think its something like the results i've gotten ............

for a passive pickup on a bass with a split humbucker p type setup with only that one pickup ... it definately broadens the range of the frequencies that that bass can output. highs sound clearer and fuller and the lows resonate (rumble anything that resonates at that low frequency) and boom ... definately stronger output in the low end ... and a level balanced signal.

this pickup is as good at picking up subtleties than any active pickup. i highly recommend it as a replacement pickup. my favorite at the moment.

That's the thing about manufacturers testimonials regarding their products. It's all so subjective, that I don't really put too much faith in them. Usually I try to get reviews from other players that have used the product in question, and I try and put together some sort of assessment based upon a mix of the reviews. But my opinions of DiMarzio's stem entirely from my own experience with them. They are so remarkably consistent!

That's the thing. With most companies, I agree entirely. But with companies like DiMarzio and Mesa/Boogie, I know exactly what their descriptions and whatnot are about and what they signify. More often than not, they are spot on to what I hear and think because they have such a distinct vision of what they want each one to sound like. Or something like that...so it's still marketing mamblo jamblo, but its cheesiness is almost credible. They both have literature about their products in a very conversational voice.

yeah, thats why its good we got here ... to bounce things off other players.

i just got lucky ... buying this pickup before i met you guys and had the opportunity to ask. i just saw that double split humbucker design and thought, "thats either gotta sound awesome or real noisy ... and dimarzio has been around for years, so i dont think iddid be noisy. split double humbuckers ... i gotta have that!

dimarzio = genuine article

It has a 4 conductor lead, right? Oh man, that'd be sweet to have with an X2N-7...I think I know what's going to happen with my Charvel now What a Face
