Spring tension adjustment qyery Empty
PostSubject: Spring tension adjustment qyery   Spring tension adjustment qyery EmptySun Aug 13, 2017 8:45 am

Hello all!
I recently had a Kahler 6 string Hybrid installed on my Sound Gear. I have super light gauge strings installed
B 100
E .090
A .070
D .050
G .030
C .025

I have some questions concerning the springs and tension.

A. How do the spring adjustment screws work?

B. How are they properly adjusted?

C. How does one get a nice balance between dives and pull ups?

Thanx everyone!!!

I will try my best to answer your questions, Juan. Laughing

A. How do the spring adjustment screws work?

The two spring sets in your sixer trem are controlled by two little allen screws that are accessed through those two matching little holes set in between where you can screw the trem arms into on top of the cam. Those screws set the angle of the two brass cam inserts that sit underneath the cam by way of set pins. They are allowed to angle up or down to affect the spring tension. Crank the screws down, the angle of the brass insert will increase, the cam will respond by wanting to roll backwards, which in turn increases the spring tension. Crank them up, and the opposite occurs.

B. How are they properly adjusted?

Proper adjustment is purely subjective. I would ask, what is it you want the Kahler to do? Only drop? Float? Be able to pull up extremely? Whatever it is will determine how to adjust the springs. If you only want to drop, crank 'em all the way down. This will prevent up-pulls, and will also increase the arm tension to maximum (which is a great upper-arm workout). If you to float, crank them up a bit until you find the correct amount of travel.

C. How does one get a nice balance between dives and pull ups?

Kind of answered above. I hope this has been maybe a little bit helpful! But hang in there, and we'll help as much as possible! Wink

And you will probably continue to do so. I have yet to meet any musician who settles for the same thing over the years. I've been playing on Kahlers since 1984, and I still tweak mine once in a while. I guess we just don't know how to settle! Laughing
