Hi everybiody! Photo.php?fbid=297626180358045&set=a.297620227025307.74510Hello everybody!

I am a metal rock bassist and I’ve been using a bass guitar with a tremolo since 1990. In fact, I have designed and built myself both the bass and the tremolo...
If you wanna see my bass, please enter You Tube and search for my videos using the tag 'Marquis of Arrant'.
P.S. Mark Blackrose is the Enghish version of my Romanian name.

Hi everybiody! 10947375_704763456310980_7384585228451633014_o
Technically speaking, my tremolo is a hybrid between a Steinberger Trans Team and a Kahler. It has a locking nut and a fine tunning. It's NOT a floating tremolo, it can only lower the tune. But it keeps the tunning no matter how much I use it - and I use it A LOT!

Greetings Mark! Welcome to BTF! cheers

After seeing your custom bass trem design, all I can say is....WOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!! affraid

I will ask what most of our guys here would. Any chance of producing these for sale? Wink

Am I correct in assuming that your fine tuners work well?

Thank you, Eric!
Yes, the tuners work well, as the entire trem does. The trem and the bass are faithfully – and without any failure - serving me since August 1991, when the project was completed. I wish I could produce bass trems for sale, but I don’t have the money to start a business. Like it wasn’t enough, I’ve been unemployed for the last four years and all my savings melted away. I couldn’t find the means – a workshop or a factory of some kind – able to do the precision metal works required for such a task. Not anymore! It makes me REALLY pissed off, because I have some new ideeas – better versions of the trem, with both horizontal and vertical fine tunning, even a locking nut for a 5-String version of the bass tremnolos, not to mention the guitar version of this bass trem. And I REALLY need AT least an extra bass!
On the other hand, I think I should start a topic about this tremolo and my bass (BTW, it is a neck-through-body one!) in the ‘TREMOLO FAMILY’ section…

Hey Mark, welcome!
Awesome looking trem!
I'm about to put a Kahler on a fretless, makes me happy seeing someone else with a fretless and trem, just so I know I'm not the only insane person out there.

PostSubject: Define insane...   Hi everybiody! EmptyThu Jan 22, 2015 12:14 pm

Thank you, Alexander!
Good luck with your Kahlered fretless! Keep me posted with the progress of this endeavor of yours!

On the other hand, define ‘insane’! lol!
In Romania, for example, ‘insane’ means everything it’s not average…. Almost everybody (or almost everybody) here thinks I’m some kind of a nutter because of my bass trem. “Hey, dude, were the heck have you seen a bass with a tremolo before” ask me everytime the average… I told them all about Joey de Mayo and Billy Sheehan, but they just wouldn’t listen…

Anyway, you know something? If playing on a fretless bass with a trem is insane, then I’m TOTALLY in love with my insanity! cheers

Thank you for your appreciation, Gavin!
As I previousșy said / wrote, I designed and built it myself. It took me two years, but it was worth it!
The whole process included designing everything (on paper, there was no Auto Cad available at the time) woodwork (100% by my hands) and metalwork (in a factory which, I'm afraid, it no longer exists) and eventually the pickups. For starters, I used a pair of Di Marzio Model G bass humbuckers (they no longer produce this stuff), but some years later (in the 1990's) I decided I can do better - and I did.
It is a neck through body bass, with mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and nut wood body.

And I thought installing my Kahler was tricky, haha. That is quite impressive!
Do you have any video or audio recordings of you playing it? I bet it's sound is unparallelled.
