EH Micro POG review Micro-10

One of things that I strive for with my distortion channel is the ability to produce a guitar-like overtone underneath the bass so as to fill-in the holes that usually come with playing in a power trio. With enough distortion, and the right speakers and amps, it has worked pretty well....but never quite 100 percent. Knowing I had to (ahem) "take it up a notch", I have experimented with other pitch shifters in the past, with mixed results.

I always knew that Electro-Harmonix makes some truly superior pitch-shifters. The POG is polyphonic, so it will track chords, which is important to me. I did once have a full-sized POG, but it had so many bells and whistles, that I could never really dial it in, so I returned it. But the Micro POG seemed simple enough. Three controls. Dry, Sub Octave, and Octave Up. How hard could it be?

It finally arrived a couple of days ago. I rushed over to Andy's to test-drive it in my rig. I grabbed my bass, fired up my rig....and.... Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

With my Grunge distortion blasting through, and the Dry and Octave Up controls dimed....I swear I am not exaggerating here....the sound was an almost exact guitar analogue. With the first chord, even Andy's eyes flew open, and all he could say was "Daaaaaaaamn, Dude!"! Simple words cannot express just how HUGE it made my dirt channel! I am now even more excited for our next gig this Saturday, since I can now replace my goal of chopping off heads with that of turning bodies into dust! Twisted Evil

I also messed with the Sub Octave, and it performed flawlessly. I'm not planning on using it in this way, but it is still pretty cool to have the option should I ever choose to do so.

Easily one of the very best purchases I have ever made.

I LOVE THIS BOX!!! cheers

Ive used the pitch shifting and octave filters on my boss quite a bit in 40ws. Its not exh but not bad either. Ive noticed that guitar players either love it or hate it. Like the controversy about overdubbing a riff while a solo is played on a recording ... you cant do it live and thats how it should be. Well, it aint, and I find it more musicly honest for the bass to fill it in from the git-go.

Try mixing some chorus, auto wah or flange in the filter. Ive had fun with that.

Nice score.

I love octave dividers/multipliers. The V-amp sounds better than my boss pedal ever did.

I've been thinking about picking up one of these pedals, judging from everything I've seen and read they sound amazing but one thing I haven't really been able to find out is if it will track bass tuned down a step well.
Have you tired this pedal tuned to DGCF Eric?

Yes indeed, Al. Not only have I tried it while detuned, but my band tunes down half a step anyways. So my low D is actually a low C#, and my POG still functions perfectly. Wink

nice Eric! I was in the market for octaver pedal, the MXR bass octave deluxe sounds great, the micro POG was even greater but a bit pricey compare to MXR... not decide any yet, but the micro POG get my attention Very Happy

Thattl probably sound great!

But then I think about billy's sound with the dirty and clean chanel, that pedal that I still haven't tried yet with octave... can you split chanels with that ebs? If you are splitting chanels, with the pedal or two rigs, octave on the clean or dirty chanel?

Just something to ponder.

Yeah I'm looking forward to messing around with this thing!
Putting it in front of the EBS, behind it, in the dirt loop.
Alot of ways to run this thing.
