Hello all,

I just registered on this site, so I figured I'd tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Ryan, so you can call me that if you wish instead of big_mits. My username is big_mits because I have them, as well as big feet. I am constantly teased about my "tug boats"

I play multiple instruments, but for the most part I focus on piano and bass. Piano was my first instrument, and I picked up bass about 8 months ago now. For piano, 90% of the music I play is ragtime; ...

Hello all, I was directed here from the Talkbass forums and I'm looking forward to learning some more about bass tremolos here. I'm a fairly recent convert to bass trems, having built a bass that uses a kahler this past January. Here's a few pics of the bass:

I think that's it.

I starting playing bass at 13 in the 70's, went to art college, played out a lot, band broke up, Starting fooling around with recording Solo Bass around 82 or so, got a Kahler when they first came out and never looked back.

Always the one to go against the grain or question "why?"

Owned an Alfa, play Gibson basses, like Captain Beefheart - Meshsuggah, rub my dog's fur the wrong way.

I have doing this weird music for so long, I do not really play "bass" anymore.

But I've gotten a couple new things over the past couple of days, both of which excite me greatly!

That being one of them. I hacked out the preamp and the old pickups. I'm going to try the X2N in both neck and bridge positions, but I figured I'd try bridge first and I'll see what happens. With a P pickup, this thing could ROAR. I love the feel/acoustic sound of this bass, but the old electronics didn't fit me or the way it sounded at all. So I'm fixing it. I don't give a damn how ...

I started playing bass in July of 1982 at the age of 16. I had been dabbling in guitar for a couple of years prior, but when both a friend of mine and my cousin suggested simultaneously that I try playing bass, I went "great! What's a bass?" The first time I tried a bass, and felt the walls shake and the windows rattle around me, I was hooked! But I didn't want to give up the things I had learned on guitar, especially having been so heavily influenced by Eddie Van Halen. I still ...
