I owe a huge thank you to Martin for selling me his X2N-7. I spent the early afternoon installing it in my SX, and all I can say is....WOW!!!! This thing is pure dynamite! The clarity and richness of the notes, along with the now increased responsiveness is unreal! Harmonics literally pour off the notes, and the overall tonal fidelity is exactly what I had hoped it would be! I've only had the chance to try it running through Linda's V-Tone GMX210, but I am going to fully test-drive it at full ...

I want one of those on my Blitz. Then I can have a pickup cover and a trem.

It's a hell of a lot cheaper than an entire Rickenbacker and it can allow me to replace the J pickup in my Blitz with whatever (even the same J pickup) I want.

I'm not sure if anyone here has tried one, but I have to tell you it is one of the greatest pickups to use effects with.

The pickup itself has little to no treble, no attack response, just woofy sub bass. It certainly nails the Jack Bruce Cream sound, but I would hardly recommend one for everyday use.

Still no other pickup does what it does, the Model 1 comes close but is a more diluted attempt. Combine a mudbucker with a single coil high out put pickup and you nail the Billy Sheehan ...

Question for the X2N users

So I am thinking about how exactly I'm going to layout my Yamaha BB414 (that is, once I actually get one), and I want to drop an X2N-7 into the P position for my distortion channel. I would prefer not to hack up the body and cover too badly, so I'm wondering about the possibility of splitting the coils of an X2N-7 to go into the stock P casings.

My question is this. Do you guys think that an X2N-7 can be split up? Does the pickup look like the two coils can be liberated from one another?

It's wired straight to the output jack and it sounds FANTASTIC!! Literally THE sound I have been looking for through my Mesa. Alongside a clean tone when it's cranked, it sounds like the high frequency part of John's rig in Live At Leeds. In other words, it's perfect! I can't wait to wire it up to a 3 way and volume knob. Then I'll be set.

I was beginning to lose my taste for the idea after not liking the X2N where it is there. It sounds too undefined, too thin, yet too thick. ...

i ordered one of these last week. it was very cheap ... about $28 with shipping.

it didnt get great reviews but this info was from the internet ... thats where i go for factual information (sarcasam). it was stated that it was too high end and lacked lows ... but thats not what i'm using it for. its a bridge pickup and i'll be using it to pick up highs and mids with a split humbucker p style for the mids and lows.

The double bladed pole pieces cover the entire range of motion, and are noted for their ability to pick up every subtle nuance, and increase sustain.

If the specs are to be believed, than the X2N is by far the hottest guitar pickup currently on the market. But even though it is a guitar pickup, it is finding a new identity as a bass pickup. DiMarzio used to make an actual bass version called the X2N-B, but this was only in the naming, since the X2N and the X2N-B are the exact same pickup.

This is the Model DP102 made for six-string guitar. John Gallagher of Raven uses this exact pickup in his Explorer bass for his screaming distortion ...
