although I don't have it yet, I just bought a 2002 Dillion BeatleBass from Ebay for ~ 150.00

the guy replaced the Dilllion tailpiece with a Hofner style one, so it may be "better" or worse than the original...

here's a couple pics:

nothing special, but the Galveston/Starfire cheapie copies are around 200 new, and I already know the quality of Dillion units since I have 3 already and this thing went for 499.95 back in the days it was sold as new.....

So this past weekend I got a new car, which is awesome on it's own. It's a 2005 Honda CRV, for those curious. My mom likes it for it's excellent safety ratings; I like it because it gets me places (and is way easier to load my double bass into than a Corolla!). I got pretty lucky and the money from the insurance company for my last car is covering all of the costs, except for like half of the tax and licensing and so on and so forth. But here's my favorite part: I had planned installing the ...

Today, I was doing some summer homework in my dads office (don't ask, I just work better in there no idea why) and saw a beat up guitar case in his closet. Opened it up, and found an old acoustic guitar.

My dad is an ex hippies (even though he hates hippies), so I'm not surprised.

It says Franciscan on the headstock. Apparently they made cheap acoustics in the 60's, but went under a long time ago. It's not a bad guitar though.

I have been using the Big D Varitone for a while and have enjoyed the effect it has on your bass-

It's a series of capacitors on a rotary dial

The good-

It shapes your tone in dramatic ways

Its passive, so it is pretty quite once set

The bad-

Big volume drops between settings

Noise when switching between settings

Physically large-you need a deep body.

You can use a push pull bypass

OK...you guys all know that my plan is take some sort of Yamaha BB series bass, and do all of my customizing things to it. You know, a trem, stereo pickups, etc. So I find myself really on the fence as to which way I ought to go, and I wanted to get your opinions. Here are my two choices.

Yamaha BB414:

Yamaha BB714BS:

The BB414 costs about $250 less than the BB714BS does. But I want that neck humbucker, so if I got the BB414, I would end up routing the spot for ...

I chose to go with ProCos for my instrument cables.

I would have gone with the straight/angled cable, but the longest they make them is in 18.5 foot lengths...and I kinda want longer than that. Cables are so damn expensive, it seems more worth it to just make your own. I'm sure it is, but I love the molded connectors. It feels that much more ...

Soon after receiving it I'm bringing it up to the Pedulla factory myself, it's only 40 minutes north of here. I'm going to get the fretboard coated with their famous polyester resin. And might have them set up the action while it's there. I already emailed Pedulla and it should only take 2 weeks.

A 1982 Kramer DMZ6000. 20 fret () luminum neck with walnut inserts. Maple and Walnut Alembic style body. Dimarzio Pickups. It's so hair metal, but I love it anyway. I saw it at this used guitar store, and I felt an inexplicable attraction to it. I love the tone, bright as hell. I'm thinking about replacing the tone knobs with no-load pots sometime.
