I was really impressed with the satriani trem video that Kugelspot posted I wanted to try my version of a technique in that playing while hold/moving the tremolo in crazy in-between pitches

I used it here in Whammy Wasteland using my EB-0 for the straight bass and my BluesHawk for everything else. Notice how horn like the Blueshawk sounds, almost saxophone like in some parts.

On my RD I can get crazy high harmonics which are located on the inside of the 3rd & 4th frets mostly on the G string. My Rd is my only bass that can really nail them consistently or at all.

They sound like a little girl screaming through the Digitech Whammy up one octave on "Custer's Last Stand" at 1:33

Every recording I do is an experiment in some way. Still, though I try to fight from using "Auto pilot" in my playing, structuring, arranging material the same way again & again.

The problem becomes the longer you play the harder it becomes to change old habits and find something really new (for you) to play.

Things I have tried-

In arrangement & playing - No structure, no repeating structure, no known pattern playing, using random note choices from unexpected ...

On most of my basses I have the action set to as low as possible for fast, effortless playing but...

On my EB-0 the neck on them is set flat, no angle & the bridge does not go low enough for really low action.

The other thing is since it is short scale you need heavy gauge strings because of the low tension, or the strings are like rubber bands.

The plus side of this I am finding is, set up this way you get really nice sustain, ringing notes and tapping / hammer ons ...

Trumpet , Trombone & French Horn

My Blueshawk sounds like a trumpet & Trombone french Horn, more than my other basses. I believe it is because of the single coil pickups & Big D varitone.

Using an EH Bass Micro synthesizer, setting a slight bit of Attack delay to the notes & Digitech whammy up one octave for a trumpet no octave for a Trombone. Using the Kahler with these gives you that trumpet "vibrato" that can only be done with a Kahler.

Also known as the correct usage of the word tremolo, this involves taking any note, and giving the bar a slight back-and-forth wiggle. This can be done subtly, or dramatically. I like to quickly run my left hand up the G string, settling on a high note, and shaking the trem for all it's worth.

Using the trem with large long drops, bass Micro synth, played backward (Line 6 Delay) you can create very Pink Floyd Martian Landscapes similar to what Floyd did on their LP Echoes.

This was using my Blueshawk again for the most part.

This trick seems to work while in the middle of a song, instead of while doing solo parts. It involves palming the tremolo arm while plucking the strings. As you do this run your scales, and give the arm a slight SWOON downward and upward into each note. With practice, you can replicate the slippery tone of not having frets. It isn't a perfect fake, but it's not too far off.

Probably the simplest and primary thing you can do. Take the note you wish to drop, and simply lower the bar all the way down. This can particularly effective at the end of songs. For example, I love to take my open E string, and simple drop it all the way down into the mud, then bring it back up again. Sometimes I will drop a string, and bring up the entire chord.
